Independent 1. Stirling was given city status in 2002. Council also includes Bannockburn, site of 1314 battle, and commuter town of Dunblane. West is Callander (location for 'Dr Finlay's Casebook') and the eastern banks of Loch Lomond.

The Scottish National Party gained seats from Labour in Bannockburn at a byelection on 23 January, and in Stirling East ward at a byelection on 5 December.
