Powys Independents 15, Non-affiliated 2. Large rural area containing most of mid-Wales. Farming is the largest local industry; tourism is important (Brecon Beacons national park). Hay-on-Wye was converted to a book town by Richard Booth in the 1970s.

Plaid Cymru gained Machynlleth from an Independent at a byelection on 9 October. Joy Jones (Newtown East) moved from non-aligned to Powys Independents in June 2024. The Conservatives gained Rhiwcynon from an Independent at a byelection on 4 June.
