The 'rose of the Shires', in the East Midlands and in easy reach of both Birmingham and London. The county council hit severe financial difficulties in early 2018 over the capital cost of its new headquarters.
The council is likely to be abolished in 2020 as part of local government reorganisation. Oundle has a byelection on 21 February (held by an Independent elected as Conservative). The Secretary of State has appoint Commissioners to take over governance of the council.
