The council will merge with Suffolk Coastal in 2019 to form East Suffolk. At byelections on 12 July, the Conservatives gained Pakefield from Labour, while the Liberal Democrats gained Southwold and Reydon from the Conservatives. Steve Ardley (Gunton and Corton) moved from Conservative to Independent in June 2018. Nick Webb (Whitton) moved from Independent to Conservative in May 2018.
