Independent 1. Large and growing borough and county town in the East Midlands, with the largest population of any non-metropolitan district. Historically a centre of shoemaking, but now has a diverse range of industries.

Labour held Delapre and Briar Hill ward at a byelection on 29 November. The 2019 elections have been postponed to 2020 pending local government reorganisation.
