Churchill’s old maxim will be being celebrated by Labour Party workers in Rugby this week, as the party held its seat at Lawford and New Bilton division of Warwickshire county council. Doug Hodkinson was declared the winner with 724 votes, while Conservative runner-up Claire Watts had 723. Two recounts were needed to confirm the result.
In the two other results, Labour gained a seat from the Scottish National Party in Cambuslang East ward, South Lanarkshire council, and the Liberal Democrats held on to Highgate ward, Haringey borough council with an improved majority.
