Four Conservative councillors on Isle of Wight county council have resigned from the party to sit as Independents. Councillors Patrick Joyce, Vanessa Churchman, Win McRobert and Anne Bishop are apparently unwilling to go along with the ruling group’s policy on schools on the Island.
Britain’s oddest named council group, the Idle Toads on South Ribble borough council, have come to an end as one of their members (Barrie Yates) left to sit as an Independent. Although the Idle Toad Party continues, this leaves Tom Sharratt as its only member (he sits on both South Ribble borough council and Lancashire county council) and by the rules for local council political groups, it is not possible to have a group of one member.
