Here are the byelections coming up:

- Aylsham division, Norfolk county council because of the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Graham Rix. The term ends in 2009.
- Hareholme ward, Rossendale borough council, following the death of Peter Gill (Labour). The term ends in 2010.
- Llandybie ward, Carmarthenshire county council, following the death of Independent councillor Mary Thomas. The winner must fight for re-election in May 2008.
- Lochee ward, Dundee city council, caused by the resignation of SNP councillor Nigel Don after his election to the Scottish Parliament. The winner will serve until 2011.
- Manor ward, Forest Heath district council, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Sue Syvret. The term will end in 2011.
- Rhiw ward, Conwy county borough council, following the resignation of Steven Woolfe (Conservative). The winner will be up for re-election in May.
- West ward, Wellingborough borough council, caused by the death of Cyril Palmer (Conservative). The winner will serve until 2011.
- Wickham ward, Winchester city council, caused by the death of Liberal Democrat Sue FitzGerald. The winner will serve until 2011.

- Bagshot ward, Surrey Heath borough council, following the death of Bryan Ward of the Liberal Democrats. The winner serves until 2011.
- Canons ward, Harrow borough council following the death of former Conservative mayor Janet Cowan. The winner will serve until 2010.
- Chiswick Riverside ward, Hounslow borough council following the death of Conservative cabinet member Robert Kinghorn. The term lasts until 2010.
- Earlswood and Whitebushes ward, Reigate and Banstead borough council, following the resignation of Paul Hutchison (Conservative). The winner will have a seat until 2011.
- Regency ward, Brighton and Hove city council, caused by the resignation of Green Party councillor Dr Hermione Roy. The new councillor will sit until 2011.
- Riverside ward, Southwark borough council, following the resignation of Liberal Democrat Paul Baichoo. The winner serves until 2010.
- Treharris ward, Merthyr Tydfil county borough council, caused by the resignation of controversial Independent councillor Ian Tuck. This is likely to be the last byelection in Wales before the ‘six month rule’ kicks in as all councillors are up for re-election in May 2008.

There are known to be Conservative vacancies in Borehamwood Hillside ward, Hertsmere borough council, following a resignation, in Harpenden South West division, Hertfordshire county council after the death of Iris Tarry, in Lovett and North Claines ward, Wychavon district council, following the death of Paul Coley, in Marlow North and West ward, Wycombe district council, following the resignation of Tony Dunn who has taken a politically restricted post, in Roman Bank and Peckover division of Cambridgeshire county council following the death of Brian Hardy, in Springfield ward of Hackney borough council after the resignation of Eric Ollerenshaw, in Upavon ward, Kennet district council, following the death of Dominic Campbell, and in both Thornton Cleveleys division of Lancashire county council and Victoria ward of Wyre borough council after the death of Keith Tebbs who sat on both councils.
Labour seats are vacant in Bedwell division of Hertfordshire county council, after the death of Tanis Kent, in Holmewood and Heath ward, North East Derbyshire district council, following the death of Terry Fisher, in Ibstock and Heather ward, North West Leicestershire district council, following the death of Dai Male, in Lawford and New Bilton division, Warwickshire county council, following the death of Bryan Levy, and in Tulketh ward, Preston city council after the death of Jean Al-Seraj.
The Liberal Democrats have vacancies in Newton ward, Sandwell borough council, following the death of former group leader Martyn Smith, and in Cupernham ward, Test Valley borough council, following the death of Alan Marsh.
The lack of attendance of the British National Party’s James Lloyd at Sandwell borough council for six months has led to his seat being declared vacant.
