The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
Barnsley: The byelection in Dodworth ward held on 12 December was won by Andy Waters. Liberal Democrat hold.
Chelmsford: The byelection in South Hanningfield, Stock and Margaretting ward held on 12 December was won by Gillian Bonnett. Conservative hold.
Essex: The byelection in Stock division held on 12 December was won by Susan Dobson. Conservative hold.
Runnymede: The byelection in Ottershaw ward held on 12 December was won by Robert Day, an Independent candidate aligned with the other Independent councillors for the ward and the late councillor.
St Helens: The byelection in Blackbrook ward held on 12 December was won by Victor Floyd. Reform UK gain from Labour.
Wakefield: The byelection in Featherstone ward held on 12 December was won by Scott Haslam. Labour hold.
Defections
Birmingham: Martin Brooks, who was elected for the Labour Party in Harborne ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
East Sussex: Sam Adeniji, who was elected for the Conservatives in Seaford North division, has left the party to sit as an Independent county councillor.
Edinburgh: Cammy Day, who was elected for the Labour Party in Forth ward, has left the party group and is sitting as an Independent councillor.
Inverclyde: Stephen McCabe, whow as elected for the Labour Party in Inverclyde East ward, has left the party group and is sitting as an Independent councillor.
Leicestershire: Mark Frisby, who was elected for the Conservatives in Melton West division but left the party whip last month, has now returned to it.
Lichfield: Mike Wilcox, who was elected for the Conservatives in Alrewas and Fradley ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
Midlothian: Bryan Pottinger, who was elected for the Labour Party in Midlothian East ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
Ribble Valley: Derek Brocklehurst, who was elected for the Labour Party in Alston and Hothersall ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
Staffordshire: Mike Wilcox, who was elected for the Conservatives in Burntwood South division, has left the party to sit as an Independent county councillor.
West Sussex: Paul Linehan, who was elected for the Conservatives in Bramber Castle division, has joined Reform UK.
New vacancies
Liverpool: Much Woolton and Hunts Cross ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Dave Aizlewood. Term ends 2027.
North Northamptonshire: Oakley ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Ross Armour, who was elected for Labour but left the party in August. As his term would have ended in May, no byelection will be held.
Dates for byelections
Liverpool: The byelection due in Much Woolton and Hunts Cross ward will be held on 23 January.
Stirling: The byelection due in Bannockburn ward will be held on 23 January.
