The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
- Hertfordshire: The byelection in Bedwell division held on 22 August was won by Ellie Plater. Labour hold.
- Wychavon: The byelection in Badsey and Aldington ward held on 29 August was won by Mark Ward. Conservative hold.
- Wychavon: The byelection in Harvington and Norton ward held on 29 August was won by Craig Reeves. Independent gain from Conservative.
Changes of allegiance
- East Cambridgeshire: James Lay, who was elected for the Conservatives in Woodditton ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor. His move means the Conservatives no longer have an overall majority.
- Flintshire: A husband and wife team of councillors who left the Labour Party and were elected as Independents at the most recent council election, have now retaken the Labour whip. They are Glyn Banks (Llanasa and Trelawnyd ward) and Pam Banks (Mostyn ward). In addition, Roz Mansell (Connah’s Quay Wepre ward) has moved from the Independent group to the Eagle group.
- North Northamptonshire: Ross Armour, who was elected for the Labour Party in Oakley ward but was reported to have left the group last week, has been restored to it; it is unclear whether the initial report was mistaken.
- Southend-on-Sea: Martin Berry, who was elected for the Labour Party in St Lukes ward, has left the party to sit as a non-aligned councillor.
- Stockport: Aron Thornley, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Marple South and High Lane ward but left the party two weeks after the election in May 2023, has now joined the Labour Party.
- Teignbridge: Nina Jeffries, who was elected for Liberal Democrats in Teignmouth West ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- West Dunbartonshire: Two councillors have left the Labour Party in a dispute about the new Provost. They are Danny Lennie and June McKay (both representing Clydebank Waterfront ward). As a result Labour has lost its overall majority, and a Scottish National Party councillor was elected as Provost. Labour remains leading the council but it is uncertain if this will continue.
- West Northamptonshire: Louisa Fowler, who was elected for the Conservatives in Towcester and Roade ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
New vacancies
- Aberdeenshire: Fraserburgh and District ward, after the impending resignation of Scottish National Party councillor Seamus Logan, now Member of Parliament for Aberdeenshire North and Moray. Term ends 2027.
- Coventry: St Michael’s ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor David Welsh. Term ends 2026.
- Derby: Mackworth ward, after the impending resignation of Labour councillor John Whitby, now Member of Parliament for Derbyshire Dales. Term ends 2026.
- Ealing: Hanger Hill ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Gregory Stafford, now Member of Parliament for Farnham and Bordon. Term ends 2026.
- Ealing: Northolt Mandeville ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Deirdre Costigan, now Member of Parliament for Ealing Southall. Term ends 2026.
- Ealing: South Acton ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Callum Anderson, now Member of Parliament for Buckingham and Bletchley. Term ends 2026.
- Leeds: Farnley and Wortley ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Mark Sewards, now Member of Parliament for Leeds South West and Morley. Term ends 2026.
- Lewes: Wivelsfield ward, after the resignation of Green Party councillor William Coupland due to ill health. Term ends 2027.
- North Northamptonshire: Burton and Broughton ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Chris Smith-Haynes. Term ends May next year.
- St Albans: Harpenden North and Rural ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Beth Fisher. Term ends 2028.
- Southampton: Shirley ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Satvir Kaur, now Member of Parliament for Southampton Test. Term ends 2027.
Dates for byelections
- Blackpool: The byelection due in Marton ward will be held on 3 October.
- Falkirk: The byelection due in Falkirk South ward will be held on 17 October.
- Lancaster: The byelection due in Scotforth East ward will be held on 3 October.
