The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Newcastle-under-Lyme: The byelection for two seats in Madeley and Betley ward held on 4 July was won by Mandy Berrisford and Jill Whitmore. Conservatives hold both seats. The result was not declared until Monday 8 July.
  • Ribble Valley: The byelection in St Mary’s ward held on 4 July was won by William Holden. Labour gain from a Progressive Liberal elected as a Liberal Democrat. The result was not declared until Monday 8 July.

Changes of allegiance

  • Adur: Steve Neocleous, who was elected for the Conservatives in Churchill ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Breckland: Stephen Fraser, who was elected as an Independent councillor for Attleborough Burgh and Haverscroft ward, has joined the Conservative Party.
  • Carmarthenshire: Rob James, who was elected for the Labour Party in Lliedi ward, has left the party to sit as an unaffiliated Independent councillor.
  • Flintshire: Carol Ellis, who was elected as an Independent councillor for Buckley Mountain ward but had been sitting as unaligned, has now joined the Independent group.
  • Islington: Ilkay Cinko-Oner, who was elected for the Labour Party in Laycock ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Lewisham: Hau-Yu Tam, who was elected for the Labour Party in Evelyn ward, has left the party to sit as an unaffiliated councillor.
  • Pembrokeshire: Aaron Carey, who was elected for the Conservatives in Pembroke Monkton and St Mary South division, has left the party to sit as an unaffiliated councillor.
  • Three Rivers: Sara Bedford, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Abbots Langley and Bedmond ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Vale of White Horse: The two councillors who have left the Liberal Democrats in recent months have formed the Independent Voice for Vale group. They are Debra Dewhurst (Blewbury and Harwell ward) and Sally Povolotsky (Steventon and the Hanneys ward).

New vacancies

  • Camden: Camden Square ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Danny Beales, now Member of Parliament for Uxbridge and South Ruislip. Term ends 2026.
  • Hertfordshire: Bedwell division, after the resignation of Labour councillor Baroness Taylor of Stevenage, now a junior Minister at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. Term ends May next year.
  • Islington: Hillrise ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Ollie Steadman. Term ends 2026.
  • Perth and Kinross: Strathallan ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Crawford Reid. Term ends 2027.
  • Three Rivers: Abbots Langley and Bedmond ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Matthew Bedford. Term ends 2028.
  • Wychavon: Badsey and Aldington ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Philippa Capel. Term ends 2027.
  • Worthing: Marine ward, after the resignation of outgoing Labour council leader Beccy Cooper, now Member of Parliament for Worthing West. Term ends 2028.
  • Wychavon: Harvington and Norton ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Bradley Thomas, now Member of Parliament for Bromsgrove. Term ends 2027.

Dates for byelections

  • Caerphilly: The byelection due in Aberbargoed and Bargoed ward will be held on 15 August.
  • Islington: The byelection due in Hillrise ward will be held on 15 August.

Other updates

  • Kirklees: A motion of no confidence and to remove the current Leader has been tabled for the council meeting on Wednesday 17 July. The Leader was elected for Labour but left the party in May.
