The latest information about local council electoral matters is as follows:
- Broxtowe borough council: The council now has a Labour leader at the head of a Labour-Liberal Democrat coalition administration.
- Derbyshire county council: Byelection on 16 June in Eckington division after the resignation of Labour councillor Steve Pickering, who has taken a politically restricted post. There is also a vacancy in Sawley division after the death of veteran Independent councillor Bill Camm. Both terms end in 2013.
- Derbyshire Dales district council: Byelection on 23 June in Stanton ward after the sole candidate nominated for the full council elections withdrew. Term ends 2015.
- East Lindsey district council: The Conservative group leader has been elected as council leader, at the head of an all Conservative executive.
- High Peak borough council: A minority Labour administration has been agreed.
- Mansfield district council: Vacancy in Park Hall ward after the death of Labour councillor Dorothy Beastall just a day after she was re-elected. Term ends 2015.
- Newark and Sherwood district council: There is a Conservative minority administration, after the Labour group abstained in return for scrutiny chairs.
- Rushcliffe borough council: Polling in Manvers ward has been postponed from 5 May to 16 June after the death of sitting Conservative councillor Wally Smith, who was a candidate for re-election.
- South Kesteven district council: The election in Deeping St James ward has been postponed from 5 May to 23 June after the death of sitting Liberal Democrat councillor Ken Joynson.
East of England
- Babergh district council: An all-party administration will continue on the council.
- Broxbourne borough council: Vacancy in Cheshunt Central ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Jason Brimson who has been arrested on suspicion of fraud. Term ends 2014.
- Essex county council: Byelection on 9 June in Chelmsford Central division after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Margaret Hutchon. Term ends 2013.
- Norwich city council: A minority Labour administration will continue to hold office for the coming year.
- Rochford district council: Byelection on 16 June in Hullbridge ward after the death of Conservative councillor Peter Robinson. Term ends 2012.
- St Albans city council: The Conservatives have formed a minority administration.
- Hackney borough council: Linda Kelly, who was elected for Labour in Leabridge ward, joined the Conservatives in the middle of the annual council meeting
- Harrow borough council: Byelection on 2 June in Canons ward after the death of veteran Conservative councillor John Cowan. Term ends 2014.
- Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea: There are two byelections on 9 June, both due to the deaths of Conservative councillors. They are Dr Iain Hanham (husband of former council leader and now Government minister Baroness Hanham) in Brompton ward, and Andrew Dalton in Queen’s Gate ward. Both terms end in 2014.
- Southwark borough council: Vacancy in Peckham ward after the death of the Mayor of Southwark, Tayo Situ, who was a Labour councillor. Term ends 2014.
- Wandsworth borough council: Vacancy in Thamesfield ward due to the resignation of council leader Edward Lister, who has been appointed Chief of Staff to Boris Johnson and Deputy Mayor for Planning. Term ends 2014.
- Newcastle-upon-Tyne city council: Two wards have had their elections postponed from 5 May to 16 June due to the deaths of candidates. They are Byker (where the sitting councillor is Labour) and Westerhope (where the Liberal Democrat candidate Neil Hamilton died on polling day).
- Allerdale district council: A Labour minority administration has taken control, with support from several Independent councillors.
- Cheshire East council: The election in Crewe South division has been postponed to 16 June after the death of Betty Howell, a sitting Liberal Democrat councillor who was seeking re-election.
- Chorley borough council: A coalition between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats to control the council has been agreed.
- Eden district council: The Conservatives and Independent Alliance have formed a coalition to run the council, under a Conservative leader.
- Oldham borough council: Ian Barker, the councillor for Failsworth West who was elected as a Conservative before leaving the group, joining the Green Party, and leaving the Green Party, has rejoined the Conservatives.
- Pendle borough council: There is a Conservative minority administration forming the executive for 2011/12.
- Sefton borough council: The all-party administration will continue for another year, with the Labour group leader serving as the Leader of the Council. There had been speculation that a Labour minority administration, or a Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition, would be formed.
- Stockport borough council: A minority Liberal Democrat administration will continue to run the council.
- Wirral borough council: There will be a Labour minority administration after the Liberal Democrats declined to continue their coalition with the Conservatives which had run the council in the past year. Steve Niblock, who was elected as a Liberal Democrat in Bromborough ward, has joined the Labour Party over his opposition to the national coalition government.
- Brighton and Hove city council: The Green Party’s convenor has been elected council leader and has formed a minority administration.
- Isle of Wight council: Byelection on 23 June in Binstead and Fishbourne ward after the death of Conservative councillor Ivan Bulwer. Term ends 2013.
- Milton Keynes council: Liz Campbell, who was elected for the Labour Party in Denbigh ward but left to sit as an Independent last year, has joined the Green Party. The Conservatives are expected to form a minority administration on the council.
- Reigate and Banstead borough council: The three councillors for Chipstead, Hooley and Woodmansterne ward (Richard Mantle, John Stevenson and Richard Wagner), together with Brian Cowle of Banstead Village ward, all of whom were elected as Conservatives, have formed the Downland Group on the council.
- Surrey county council: Linda Kemeny was elected councillor for St Johns and Brookwood division on 19 May, holding the seat for her party.
- Thanet district council: There will be a Conservative minority administration on the council.
- Winchester city council: A Conservative minority administration has been installed in power, after the Independent and Labour councillors abstained at the annual council meeting.
- Wokingham council: Vacancy in Remenham, Wargrave and Ruscombe ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Claire Stretton, who has moved to Maidenhead and was elected as a councillor for Boyn Hill ward on the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead earlier this month. Term ends 2012.
- Bath and North East Somerset council: A minority Liberal Democrat administration has taken control of the council.
- Bournemouth borough council: Derek Borthwick, who was elected as an Independent in Throop and Muscliff ward earlier this month, has taken his seat as a Conservative. A rival Independent candidate has made clear her displeasure.
- Bristol city council: Although they lost their majority at the council elections, the Liberal Democrats will run the council as a minority administration.
- Exeter city council: Labour has taken minority control of the council, winning votes partly due to the absence from the annual meeting of one Conservative councillor who was seriously ill.
- North Devon district council: A Liberal Democrat leader has been elected at the head of a Liberal Democrat/Independent coalition.
- Poole council: A minority Conservative administration has been agreed for the coming year.
- Purbeck district council: Byelection on 7 July in Lytchett Matravers ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Mark Gracey. Term ends 2014. The council remains under minority Liberal Democrat control after the Independent councillors sided with the Liberal Democrat group at the annual meeting.
- Stroud district council: A Conservative leader has been elected and has formed a minority administration.
- Torbay council: Byelection on 23 June in Cockington with Chelston ward after the election of Conservative councillor Gordon Oliver as Mayor of Torbay. Term ends 2015.
- Newcastle-under-Lyme borough council: The Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition administration will continue on the council, under a Conservative leader. The election in Seabridge ward has been postponed from 5 May to 23 June after the death of a candidate.
- Staffordshire county council: Byelection on 16 June in Burton Town division after the death of Labour councillor Peter Beresford, who had previously announced his resignation due to ill health. Churnet Valley division is vacant after the death of Conservative councillor Barrie Mycock. Both terms end in 2013.
- Wychavon district council: Byelection on 23 June in Elmley Castle and Somerville ward after no candidates were nominated in the full council elections.
- Wyre Forest district council: Graham Ballinger, who was elected for the Liberal Party in Greenhill ward, has joined the Independent Community and Health Concern group.
- Richmondshire district council: The council administration will be formed by ‘The Independents’ group on this council with no overall majority.
- Wakefield borough council: An impending vacancy is reported in Horbury and South Ossett ward due to the resignation of Conservative councillor Elizabeth Hick who is in poor health. Term ends 2014.
- Conwy county borough council: Byelection on 16 June in Uwchaled division after the death of Plaid Cymru councillor Wil Charles Edwards. Term ends 2012.
- Gwynedd county council: Byelection on 16 June in Arllechwedd division after the death of John Robert Jones of the Liberal Democrats. Term ends 2012.
- Torfaen county borough council: Vacancy in Snatchwood division after the death of Independent councillor Tom Gould. Term ends 2012. Meanwhile Kathleen Williams, who was elected as a Liberal Democrat in Panteg ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent due to her opposition to spending cuts.
- Aberdeen city council: Neil MacGregor, candidate of the Scottish National Party, was elected councillor for Dyce/Bucksburn/Danestone ward on 19 May. He gains the seat from the Liberal Democrats. There is another byelection on 23 June in Airyhall/Broomhill/Garthdee ward after the resignation of Scott Cassie, who was elected as a Liberal Democrat but sitting as an Independent after being charged with fraud. Both terms end 2012.
- Dumfries and Galloway council: Byelection on 16 June in Abbey ward after the resignation of Conservative Party councillor Michael Thomson.
- Falkirk council: Byelection on 9 June in Bo’ness and Blackness ward after the death of Scottish National Party councillor John Constable. Term ends 2012.
- Highland council: Byelection in Tain and Easter Ross ward on 9 June, after the death of Alan Torrance who was elected as an Independent but had joined the Scottish National Party group. Term ends 2012.
- Renfrewshire council: Two councillors elected as Liberal Democrats have joined the Scottish National Party. They are Marie McGurk (Paisley South ward), who cites opposition to decisions made by the Liberal Democrats nationally and Mike Dillon (Paisley North West ward).
