The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
Burnley: The byelection in Trinity ward held on 26 October was won by Alexander Hall. Green Party hold.
Coventry: The byelection in Earlsdon ward held on 26 October was won by Dr Lynnette Kelly. Labour hold.
Herefordshire: The byelection in Golden Valley South ward held on 26 October was won by Matthew Engel (the well-known cricket journalist). Independent hold; he is likely to join the Independents for Herefordshire group.
Lancashire: The byelection in Burnley Central West division held on 26 October was won by Scott Cunliffe. Green Party hold.
Bradford: Two councillors have left the Labour Party to sit as Independent councillors, over its stance on the Middle East conflict. They are Taj Salam (Little Horton ward) and Sarfraz Nazir (Manningham ward).
Buckinghamshire: Luisa Sullivan, who was elected in Iver ward for the Conservatives, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
Coventry: Two councillors suspended from the Labour whip have returned to it. They are Tariq Khan (Foleshill ward) and Christine Thomas (Binley and Willenhall ward).
Haringey: Mark Blake, who was elected for the Labour Party in Fortis Green ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor, over the party’s stance on the Middle East conflict.
Oxford: Six councillors, all elected for the Labour Party, have left the party to sit as Independent councillors, over its attitude to the Middle East crisis. They are Edward Mundy and Imogen Thomas (both Holywell ward), Dr Hosnieh Djafari-Marbini and Duncan Hall (both Northfield Brook ward), Jabu Nala-Hartley (Barton and Sandhills ward), and Paula Dunne (Cowley ward). They have since been joined by Barbara Coyne (Headington Hill and Northway ward). In addition, Sajjad Malik who was elected for the Labour Party in Temple Cowley ward has joined an Independent Group set up by Shaista Aziz and Dr Amar Latif who left the Labour Party earlier. As a result of the shifts, Labour no longer has an overall majority on the council.
Pendle: Naeem Ashraf (Brierfield East and Clover Hill ward) and Yasser Iqbal (Brierfield West and Reedley ward), who were elected for the Labour Party, have left the party to sit as Independent councillors, over the party’s stance on the Middle East conflict. As a result the Labour/Liberal Democrat coalition administration no longer has a majority.
Portsmouth: It is noted that a Portsmouth Community Independents group has been formed by Cal Corkery and Kirsty Mellor (both Charles Dickens ward).
Sheffield: The seven former Labour councillors who resigned the whip earlier this month have now formed the Sheffield Community Councillors Group. They have now been joined by Paul Wood (Woodhouse ward).
South Lanarkshire: Mark Horsham, who was elected for the Scottish National Party in Clydesdale South ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor. He is the husband of Lisa Cameron MP, who recently moved from the Scottish National Party to the Conservatives.
Torbay: Two councillors elected for the Conservatives have left the party to set up the Prosper Torbay Group. They are Patrick Joyce (Wellswood ward) and Katya Maddison (Shiphay ward). As a result the Conservatives have lost their majority on the council.
West Berkshire: Adrian Abbs, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Newbury Wash Common ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
