The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
- Barking and Dagenham: The byelection in Mayesbrook ward held on 14 September was won by Summya Sohaib. Labour hold.
- Chorley: The byelection in Croston, Mawdesley and Euxton South ward held on 14 September was won by Debra Platt. Conservative hold.
- Lancashire: The byelection in Chorley Rural West division held on 14 September was won by Alan Whittaker. Labour gain from Conservative.
- Lincolnshire: The byelection in Carholme division held on 14 September was won by Neill Murray. Labour hold.
- Liverpool: The byelection in Fazakerley East ward held on 14 September was won by Debbie Cooke. Labour hold.
- Swale: The byelection in Minster Cliffs ward held on 14 September was won by Peter MacDonald. Swale Independents gain from Conservative.
Changes of allegiance
- Cheshire West and Chester: Matt Bryan, who was elected for the Labour Party in Upton ward, has left the party to sit as a non-aligned Independent councillor. Meanwhile Martin Beveridge, who was elected for ‘Winsford Salt of the Earth’ in Winsford Gravel ward, has left the group on the council: as a result the council group now consists of the two councillors repudiated by the party.
- Stockton-on-Tees: Following an apology for online antisemitism, the Conservatives have admitted Shakeel Hussain who had been elected in Ropner ward while suspended from the party.
- Sunderland: Two councillors elected for the Liberal Democrats have joined the Labour Party. They are Allen Curtis (Doxford ward) and George Smith (Pallion ward).
- Swale: Monique Bonney, who was elected as an Independent councillor in West Down ward, has joined the Swale Independents Alliance group on the council.
- Wakefield: Richard Hunt, who was elected for the Conservatives in Wakefield South ward, has joined the Wakefield and District Independents.
New vacancies
- Burnley: Trinity ward, after the resignation of Green Party councillor Andy Fewings. Term ends 2026.
- Coventry: Earlsdon ward, after the impending resignation of Labour councillor Becky Gittins. Term ends 2027.
- Hackney: Mayor of Hackney, after the resignation of Labour Mayor Philip Glanville. Term ends 2026.
- Lancashire: Burnley Central West division. after the resignation of Green Party councillor Andy Fewings. Term ends 2025.
- Melton: Asfordby ward, after the resignation of Green Party councillor Charlie Pitt Miller. Term ends 2027.
Dates for byelections
- Burnley: The byelection due in Trinity ward will be held on 26 October.
- Coventry: The byelection due in Earlsdon ward will be held on 26 October.
- Herefordshire: The byelection due in Golden Valley South ward will now be held on 26 October. It had previously been called for 7 September but postponed following the death of a candidate.
- Shropshire: The byelection due in Alveley and Claverley division will be held on 19 October.
- Surrey: The byelection due in Horsleys division will be held on 19 October.
- Worcester: The byelection due in Warndon Parish South ward will be held on 19 October.
- Worcestershire: The byelection due in Warndon Parish division will be held on 19 October.
Other updates
- Isle of Wight: The council leader is to resign. Her Alliance group is far from a majority and this leaves control uncertain. A full council meeting on Wednesday 20 September will elect a new leadership.
