The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
This year’s round of local elections took place on Thursday 4 May and are now complete apart from the byelection in Felixstowe Coastal division of Suffolk and a recount in Longbeck ward of Redcar and Cleveland, which will be held on Tuesday 9 May. Here are the results of byelections in those authorities which did not have ordinary elections this year.
Cambridgeshire: The byelection in Arbury division held on 4 May was won by Mike Black. Labour hold.
Cambridgeshire: The byelection in Soham South and Haddenham division held on 4 May was won by Bill Hunt. Conservative hold.
Durham: The byelection in Chester-le-Street East division held on 4 May was won by Julie Scurfield. Labour gain from Conservative.
Essex: The byelection in Laindon Park and Fryerns division held on 4 May was won by Pat Reid. Labour hold.
Gloucestershire: The byelection in Highnam division held on 4 May was won by Paul McLain. Conservative hold.
Hampshire: The byelection in Purbrook and Stakes South division held on 4 May was won by Ryan Brent. Conservative hold.
Kent: The byelection in Sheppey division held on 4 May was won by Mike Whiting. Conservative hold.
Lincolnshire: The byelection in Eagle and Hykeham West division held on 4 May was won by Alan Briggs. Conservative hold.
Norfolk: The byelection in Swaffham division held on 4 May was won by John Nunn. Conservative hold.
Nottinghamshire: The byelection in Kirkby South division held on 4 May was won by Rachel Madden who resumes the seat she vacated in 2021. Ashfield Independents hold.
Suffolk: The byelection in Priory Heath division held on 4 May was won by Lucy Smith. Labour hold.
Surrey: The byelection in Walton South and Oatlands division held on 4 May was won by Ashley Tilling. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
West Sussex: The byelection in East Grinstead Meridian division held on 4 May was won by John Dabell. Conservative hold.
Westmorland and Furness: The byelection in Old Barrow and Hindpool ward held on 4 May was won by Dave Cassidy. Labour hold.
Worcestershire: The byelection in Malvern Chase division held on 4 May was won by Malcolm Victory. Green Party gain from Liberal Democrat.
Changes of allegiance
Isle of Wight: Peter Spink, who was elected for the Conservatives in Freshwater North and Yarmouth division, has left the party group to sit as an Independent Conservative councillor.
Reigate and Banstead: Sam Walsh, who was elected for the Conservatives in Banstead Village ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
Bedford: Wyboston ward, after the disqualification of Conservative councillor Tom Wootton on election as Mayor of Bedford. Term ends 2027.
Haringey: Hermitage and Gardens ward, after the death of Labour councillor Julie Davies. Term ends 2026.
Salford: Ordsall ward, after the impending resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Chris Twells, who has been elected to Cotswold district council. Term ends 2026.
Somerset: Castle Cary division, after the death of Conservative councillor Mike Lewis. Term ends 2027.
South Lanarkshire: East Kilbride West ward, after the resignation of Scottish National Party councillor Dr Ali Salamati. Term ends 2027.
Date for byelection
St Albans: The byelection due in St Peters ward will be held on Tuesday 13 June.
Stockton-on-Tees: The election in Harburn ward postponed from 4 May will be held on 22 June.
Wyre: The election in Warren ward postponed from 4 May will be held on 22 June.
South Derbyshire: The election which took place on 4 May in Hilton ward was postponed on polling day after the death of Conservative candidate Gillian Lemmon.
Southampton: The election taking place on 4 May in Coxford ward was postponed on polling day after the death of Conservative Party candidate Graham Galton.
West Devon: The election due on 4 May in Burrator ward was postponed following the death of Green Party candidate Neil Jameson.
