The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
- Blackburn with Darwen: The byelection in Darwen South ward held on 17 November was won by Matt Jackson. Labour gain from an Independent elected as a Conservative.
- Blackpool: The byelection in Greenlands ward held on 17 November was won by Peter Wright. Labour gain from Conservative.
- Bolsover: The byelection in Pinxton ward held on 17 November was won by Mark Hinman. Labour hold.
- Glasgow: The byelection in Linn ward held on 17 November was won by John Carson. Labour hold.
- Oldham: The byelection in Hollinwood ward held on 17 November was won by Hannah Roberts. Labour hold.
- Rhondda Cynon Taf: The byelection in Abercynon ward held on 17 November was won by Andrew Dennis. Labour hold.
- Shetland: The byelection in Shetland West ward held on 17 November was won by Mark Robinson who stood as an Independent candidate and succeeds another Independent.
- Suffolk: The byelection in Beccles division held on 17 November was won by Ash Lever. Green Party hold.
Changes of allegiance
- Derby: James Testro, who was elected for the Conservatives in Derwent ward but left the party in March last year and briefly joined the Liberal Democrats, has now indicated he wishes to rejoin the Conservatives.
- Kent: Andy Weatherhead, who was elected for the Conservatives in Hythe West division, has been suspended from the group after an investigation by Hope Not Hate, and is sitting as an Independent county councillor.
- Newham: Belgica GuaƱa, who was elected for the Labour Party in Canning Town South ward while administratively suspended, is now sitting as an Independent councillor.
- Plymouth: Maddi Bridgeman, who was elected for the Conservatives in Moor View ward, has been suspended from the group and is sitting as an Independent councillor.
- Redbridge: Kabir Mahmud, who was elected for the Labour Party in Clayhall ward, has left the party group and is sitting as an Independent councillor.
- Renfrewshire: John Hood, who was elected for the Labour Party in Johnstone South and Elderslie ward, has left the party and is sitting as a non-aligned councillor.
- Teignbridge: Chris Clarance, who was elected for the Conservatives in Shaldon and Stokeinteignhead ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
New vacancies
- Cambridgeshire: St Neots The Eatons division, after the death of St Neots Independent group councillor Derek Giles. Term ends 2025.
- Gedling: Newstead Abbey ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Simon Murray, now Lord Murray of Blidworth and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Home Office. His term would have ended next May so no byelection will be held.
- Harrogate: Fountains and Ripley ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Margaret Atkinson. As the council will be abolished at the end of March, no byelection will be held.
- North Kesteven: Ruskington ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Terry Boston. He will not be replaced in a byelection as his term was due to end in May.
- North Northamptonshire: Northall ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Kevin Thurland. Term ends 2025.
- North Yorkshire: Masham and Fountains division, after the death of Conservative councillor Margaret Atkinson, who was the council chairman. Term ends 2027.
- Rotherham: Keppel ward, after the resignation of Rotherham Democratic Party councillor Paul Hague. Term ends 2025.
- Sandwell: Cradley Heath and Old Hill ward, after the death of Labour councillor Ann Shackleton. Her term was due to end in May so no byelection will be held.
- Sevenoaks: Leigh and Chiddingstone Causeway ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor James Osborne-Jackson. His term would have ended in May so there will be no byelection.
- Torridge: Holsworthy ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Jon Hutchings. No byelection will be held as his term would have ended next May.
- Waverley: Farnham Bourne ward, after the death of Farnham Residents councillor Roger Blishen. His term was due to end in May so no byelection will be held.
Dates for byelections
- Corporation of London: There is only one candidate in the election of Alderman for Farringdon Without ward, so sitting Alderman Gregory Jones (Temple and Farringdon Together) will be re-elected at the wardmote on Wednesday 7 December.
- Corporation of London: There is only one candidate in the election of Alderman for Queenhithe ward, so sitting Alderman Alastair King (Independent) will be re-elected at the wardmote on Wednesday 7 December.
- Redcar and Cleveland: The byelection due in Normanby ward will be held on 22 December.
Other updates
- Ashfield: The Leader of the council, and five other councillors from the ruling Ashfield Independents group, were this week arrested as part of a fraud investigation. The party denies any wrongdoing. No charges have yet been brought.
