The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Coventry: The byelection in Sherbourne ward held on 22 September was won by Jackie Gardiner. Conservative gain from Labour.
  • Gwynedd: The byelection in Llanuwchllyn division held on 22 September was won by Alan Evans, who was re-elected after being accidentally disqualified when a bout of COVID prevented him signing his declaration of acceptance of office. Plaid Cymru hold.
  • Stoke-on-Trent: The byelection in Bentilee and Ubberley ward held on 22 September was won by Lynn Watkins. Labour hold.
  • Wealden: The byelection in Maresfield ward held on 22 September was won by Ian Tysh. Green Party gain from Conservative.

Changes of allegiance

New vacancies

  • Burnley: Rosehill with Burnley Wood ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Phil Chamberlain; he has also left the party. Term ends 2024.
  • Oldham: Hollinwood ward, after the death of former council leader Jean Stretton who represented the Labour Party. Term ends May next year.
  • Surrey: Sunbury Common and Ashford Common division, after the death of Conservative councillor Alison Todd. Term ends 2025.

Dates for byelections

  • Derbyshire: The byelection due in Long Eaton division will be held on 27 October.
  • Sandwell: The byelection due in Wednesbury South ward will be held on 27 October.
  • Wiltshire: The byelection due in Salisbury St Paul’s division will be held on 3 November.

Other updates

  • Guildford: The leadership of the council is changing again, after Joss Bigmore of the Residents for Guildford and Villages group resigned the post. They are in coalition with the Liberal Democrats. A new leader will be elected on 11 October.
