The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

• Arun: The byelection in Barnham ward held on 8 September was won by Sue Wallsgrove. Green Party gain from Conservative.
• Cannock Chase: The byelection in Hednesford North ward held on 8 September was won by Pam Johnson. Labour gain from Conservative.
• Hartlepool: The byelection in Foggy Furze ward held on 8 September was won by Carole Thompson. Labour gain from an Independent.
• Lancaster: The byelection in Warton ward held on 8 September was won by Sue Tyldesdley. Green Party gain from Conservative.
• West Sussex: The byelection in Felpham division held on 8 September was won by Jaine Wild. Independent gain from Conservative.

Changes of allegiance

• Breckland: Taila Taylor, who was elected as an Independent candidate in Attleborough Burgh and Haverscroft ward, has joined the Conservative Party.
• Broxbourne: Carol Crump, who was elected for the Conservatives in Cheshunt South and Theobalds ward but was suspended from the whip over social media posts, has returned to the party group.
• Burnley: Peter Gill, who was elected for the Brexit Party in Hapton with Park ward and joined the Conservatives in January 2020, has now left it to sit as an Independent councillor.
• Derbyshire Dales: Peter O’Brien, who was elected for the Labour Party in Hathersage and Eyam ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor. It is also noted that Richard Bright (Hulland ward) has moved from being a Conservative councillor to an Independent, but remains within the Conservative group.
• Havering: The three councillors elected for the Conservatives in Rainham and Wennington ward have joined the Havering Residents’ Association. They are Sarah Edwards, Jacqueline McArdle, and Sue Ospreay.
• Leicester: Deepak Bajaj, who was elected for the Labour Party in Evington ward, has left the party and is sitting as an Independent councillor; he will join the Conservatives.
• North East Derbyshire: Roger Hall, who was elected for the Conservatives in Dronfield Woodhouse ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
• North Lanarkshire: Sophia Coyle, who was elected for the Scottish National Party in Airdrie North ward, has left the party and is now sitting as an Independent and supporting the minority Labour administration.
• Scarborough: Glenn Goodberry, who was elected for the Conservatives in Mayfield ward but left the party to join the Whitby Area Independents, has now rejoined the Conservatives.
• West Lindsey: Steve England, who was elected for the Conservatives in Dunholme and Welton ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.

New vacancies

• Arun: Arundel and Walberton ward, after the disqualification of Green Party councillor Faye Catterson, who did not attend any meetings of the council in six months due to illness. Term ends May next year.
• Glasgow: Linn ward, after the death of Bailie Malcolm Cunning, a former leader of the Labour group. Term ends 2027.
• Hartlepool: Throston ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Amy Prince due to a career change. Term ends 2026.
• St Helens: Moss Bank ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Zeena Iysha Begum. Term ends May next year.
• West Lothian: Broxburn, Uphall and Winchburgh ward, after the death of Labour councillor Ann Davidson. Term ends 2027.

• Fareham: The byelection due in Portchester East ward will be held on 20 October.
• Gloucester: The byelection due in Tuffley ward will be held on 13 October.
• Hartlepool: The byelection due in Throston ward will be held on 13 October.
• Leicester: The byelection due in North Evington ward will be held on 13 October.
• Stockport: The byelection due in Edgeley and Cheadle Heath ward will be held on 13 October.

Other updates

• Although the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth has led to a political truce during the period of mourning, there is no ability in electoral law for elections to be cancelled and accordingly all the byelections which have been called are going ahead.
