The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Redditch: The byelection in Headless Cross and Oakenshaw ward held on 1 September was won by Juliet Barker Smith. Labour gain from Conservative.
  • Worcestershire: The byelection in Arrow Valley West division held on 1 September was won by Andy Fry. Labour gain from Conservative.

Changes of allegiance

New vacancies

  • Fareham: Portchester East ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Jean Kelly who has moved out of the district. Term ends 2024.
  • Lancaster: University and Scotforth Rural ward, after the resignation of non-aligned Independent councillor Katie Whearty, who was elected for Labour and then sat as an Eco-Socialist Independent. Term ends 2023.
  • Lincolnshire: Spalding West division, after the death of veteran South Holland Independents county councillor Angela Newton MBE. Term ends 2025.
  • Southampton: Bitterne ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Terry Streets. Term ends 2026 (though likely to be shortened to 2023).
  • South Holland: Spalding Monks House ward, after the death of veteran Independent councillor Angela Newton MBE. Term ends 2023.
  • South Kesteven: Bourne East ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Judy Smith. Term ends 2023.

Dates for byelections

  • Birmingham: The byelection due in Sparkbrook and Balsall Heath East ward will be held on 6 October.
  • Moray: The byelection due in Buckie ward will be held on 3 November.
  • Shropshire: The byelection due in Bridgnorth West and Tasley ward will be held on 6 October.
