West Lindsey: Giles McNeill, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Nettleham ward, has left the group to sit as an Independent councillor, following his arrest.
New vacancies
Allerdale: St John’s ward, after the death of Independent councillor Joe Holliday. Term ends 2023.
Cumbria: Brampton division, after the death of Conservative councillor Lawrence Fisher. He will not be replaced in a byelection as his term was due to expire next May.
Cumbria: St John’s and Great Clifton division, after the death of West Cumbria Independent Group councillor Joe Holliday. No byelection will be held as his term would have ended next May.
Gwynedd: Llanrug division, after the death of Plaid Cymru councillor Charles Wyn Jones. Term ends 2022.
Kirklees: Birstall and Birkenshaw ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Charlotte Goodwin in order to concentrate on her army responsibilities. Term ends 2023.
Dates for byelections
In England, all current vacancies which do not fill a term ending in 2021 will be held on 6 May 2021, the ordinary day for local elections. The Cabinet Office has confirmed that local elections teams should not plan on this date being brought forward. In Wales, all byelections will be held in a period between 1 February and 16 April 2021.
