The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Result
Aberdeenshire: The byelection in Ellon and District ward held on 15 October was won by Louise McAllister. Scottish National Party hold.
Changes of allegiance
Boston: Martin Howard, who was elected for the Conservatives in Skirbeck ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
Plymouth: Problems in the Conservative group noted last week have intensified with a further six councillors leaving to sit as Independent councillors. They are Lynda Bowyer and Heath Cook (Eggbuckland ward), Richard Ball and Andrea Johnson (Compton ward), Kathy Watkin (Plymstock Radford ward) and Nigel Churchill (Plymstock Dunstone ward).
Boston: Skirbeck ward, after the impending resignation of Independent councillor Martin Howard who was elected for the Conservatives. Term ends 2023.
Oxford: Barton and Sandhills South ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Martyn Rush. Term ends 2022.
Uttlesford: The Sampfords ward, after the death of Residents 4 Uttlesford councillor Alan Storah. Term ends 2023.
Dates for byelections
In England, all current vacancies which do not fill a term ending in 2021 will be held on 6 May 2021, the ordinary day for local elections. The Cabinet Office has confirmed that local elections teams should not plan on this date being brought forward. In Wales, all byelections will be held in a period between 1 February and 16 April 2021.
