It’s been quite a week of musical chairs. Liverpool city council Liberal Democrat Beatrice Fraenkel has joined the Labour Party. However, going the other way is Kabeer Hussain, who defected from the Liberal Democrats to Labour on Leeds city council last year; he has now left the Labour group to sit as an Independent.
Peter McMillan, elected as a Conservative to Epping Forest district council, has left the group to sit as an Independent. There was no choice for his party colleague in Swindon borough council, Owen Lister, who has been expelled from the Conservative group as the party has learnt of his membership of the UK Independence Party.
