The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
- Basingstoke and Deane: The byelection in Basing ward on 6 October was won by Paul Gaskell. Conservative hold.
- Bolton: The byelection in Rumworth ward on 6 October was won by Shamim Abdullah. Labour hold.
- Caerphilly: The byelection in Gilfach division on 6 October was won by Lindsey Harding. Labour hold.
- Caerphilly: The byelection in Risca East division on 6 October was won by Arianna Passmore. Labour hold.
- East Devon: The byelection in Exmouth Brixington ward on 6 October was won by Darryl Nicholas. Conservative hold.
- Glasgow: The byelection in Garscadden/Scotstounhill ward on 6 October was won by Chris Cunningham. Scottish National Party gain from Labour.
- Haringey: The byelection in St Ann’s ward on 6 October was won by Noah Tucker. Labour hold.
- Hartlepool: The byelection in Headland and Harbour ward on 6 October was won by Tim Fleming. UK Independence Party gain from Labour.
- Highland: The byelection in Culloden and Ardersier ward on 6 October was won by Trish Robertson. Liberal Democrat gain from Labour.
Changes of allegiance
- Allerdale: Len Davies, who was elected for the Labour Party in All Saints ward, has left the party and joined the Independent Group. He is opposed to Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership of the Labour Party. As a result Labour’s overall majority on the council (achieved only two weeks ago) has been lost.
- Gosport: Patrick Bergin, who was elected for the UK Independence Party in Rowner and Holbrook ward, has joined the Conservative Party.
- Reigate and Banstead: Christian Stevens, who was elected for the UK Independence Party in Horley Central, has joined the Conservative Party.
- Tandridge: Clive Manley, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Portley ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor. He is opposed to the council’s Local Plan.
New vacancies
- Eastbourne: Sovereign ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Ray Blakebrough. Term ends
- Greenwich: Eltham North ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Wynn Davies. Term ends 2018.
- Waverley: Cranleigh West ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Brian Ellis. Term ends 2019.
Dates for byelections
- Dumfries and Galloway: The byelection due in Annandale North ward will be held on 17 November.
- Greenwich: The byelection due in Eltham North ward will be held on 10 November.
- Lancashire: The byelection due in Burnley Central East division will be held on 3 November.
- Wandsworth: The byelection due in Queenstown ward will be held on 10 November.
