Results
- Blackpool: The byelection in Bloomfield ward on 3 March was won by Jim Hobson. Labour hold.
- East Dorset: The byelection in Alderholt ward on 3 March was won by Gina Logan. Conservative hold (with a majority of eight votes).
- Havant: The byelection in Bondfields ward on 3 March was won by Lance Quantrill. Conservative hold.
- Rutland: The byelection in Whissendine ward on 3 March was won by Kevin Thomas. Liberal Democrat hold.
Changes of allegiance
- Cambridgeshire: Adrian Dent, who was elected as a Conservative county councillor in Bassingbourn division, has joined the UK Independence Party.
- Eastleigh: Suzy Hamel, who was elected as a Liberal Democrat in Hamble-le-Rice and Butlocks Heath ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor after being removed from the cabinet. She was opposed to the council administration’s proposed budget.
New vacancies
- Guildford: Stoke ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Will Chesterfield who was on the verge of being disqualified for non-attendance. Term ends 2019.
- Merton: Figge’s Marsh ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Peter Walker who was opposed to the Labour leadership’s budget and handwrote his resignation letter during the budget meeting. Term ends 2018.
Dates for byelections
- Caerphilly: The byelection due in Ynysddu division will be held on 7 April.
- Cornwall: The byelection due in Menheniot division will be held on 14 April.
- Cornwall: The byelection due in Wadebridge West division will be held on 14 April.
