The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Lincoln: The byelection in Park ward held on 3 April was won by Sarah Uldall. Liberal Democrat gain from Labour.
  • Neath Port Talbot: The byelection in Cwmllynfell and Ystalyfera ward held on 3 April was won by Susan Grounds. Liberal Democrat gain from Labour.
  • St Helens: The byelection in Sutton South East ward held on 3 April was won by John Pinnington. Reform UK gain from Liberal Democrat.

Defections

New vacancies

  • Adur: Buckingham ward, after the death of Labour councillor Nigel Jenner. Term ends 2028.
  • Amber Valley: Somercotes ward, after the death of veteran Labour councillor John McCabe. Term ends 2027.
  • Barnet: Whetstone ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Liron Velleman shortly after he had left the Labour group. Term ends 2026.
  • Broadland: Acle ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Lana Hempsall. Term ends 2027.
  • Durham: Framwellgate and Newton Hall division, after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Mamie Simmons. Her term was due to end next month so no byelection will be held.
  • Eastleigh: Eastleigh Central ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Bhavin Dedhia. Term ends 2027.
  • Highland: Cromarty Firth ward, after the resignation of Highland Alliance councillor Maxine Smith. Term ends 2027.
  • West Northamptonshire: Kingsthorpe North ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Michael Brown. His term would have ended next month so he will not be replaced.

Dates for byelections

  • Barnet: The byelection due in Whetstone ward will be held on 15 May.
  • Calderdale: The byelection due in Skircoat ward will be held on 8 May.
  • Eastleigh: The byelection due in Eastleigh Central ward will be held on 8 May.
  • Eastleigh: The byelection due in Hedge End South ward will be held on 22 May.
  • West Dunbartonshire: The byelection due in Clydebank Waterfront ward will be held on 15 May.

  • The localcouncils website now displays the average area Band D council tax levels for the 2025-26 local government year.
