The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
- Charnwood: The byelection in Sileby and Seagrave Park ward held on 31 October was won by Steve Bellamy. Green Party hold.
- Hampshire: The byelection in Bishops Waltham division held on 31 October was won by Jonathan Williams. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
- Rochdale: The byelection in North Middleton ward held on 31 October was won by Keeley O’Mara. Middleton Independents Party hold.
- Salford: The byelection in Eccles ward held on 31 October was won by Lisa Muir. Labour hold.
- Stockport: The byelection in Branhall South and Woodford ward held on 31 October was won by Peter Crossen. Conservative gain from Liberal Democrat.
- Westmorland and Furness: The byelection in Kirkby Stephen and Tebay ward held on 31 October was won by Adrian Waite. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
- Wolverhampton: The byelection in Bilston North ward held on 31 October was won by Anita Stanley. Reform UK gain from Labour.
Defections
- Aberdeen: Alex Nicoll, who was elected for the Scottish National Party in Kincorth/Nigg/Cove ward, has left the party in criticism of the council leadership.
- Gloucestershire: Nick Housden, who was elected for the Conservatives in Stonehouse division, has again been suspended from the party.
- Havant: Elizabeth Lloyd, who was elected for the Conservatives in Stakes ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Lewes: Sean MacLeod, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Newhaven North ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Mansfield: All three councillors who were elected as Mansfield Independents have joined Reform UK. They are Barry Answer (Rufford ward), Mick Barton (Maun Valley Forest Town ward), and Martin Wright (Holly Forest Town ward).
- Somerset: Steve Ashton, who was elected for the Conservatives in Crewkerne division but left to join Reform UK in March, has now left Reform UK to sit as an Independent councillor.
- West Lancashire: Three Labour councillors who voted against the council leadership over swimming pool replacements have foregone the whip and are now sitting as Independents. They are Neil Furey (Old Skelmersdale ward), Paul Hogan (Tanhouse and Skelmersdale Town Centre ward), and Kerry Lloyd (Aughton and Holborn ward).
New vacancies
- Enfield: Jubilee ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Nesil Caliskan, now Member of Parliament for Barking. Term ends 2026.
- Hertfordshire: Hatfield North division, after the death of Conservative councillor James Bond. Term ends May next year.
- Stirling: Bannockburn ward, after the death of Labour councillor Margaret Brisley who became council leader in September. Term ends 2027.
- Swale: Milton Regis ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Angie Valls. Term ends 2027.
Dates for byelections
- Cardiff: The byelection due in Splott ward will be held on 5 December.
- Enfield: The byelection due in Jubilee ward will be held on 28 November.
- South Oxfordshire: The byelection due in Cholsey ward will be held on 5 December.
- Swale: The byelection due in Milton Regis ward will be held on 19 December.
- Wokingham: The byelection due in Shinfield ward will be held on 5 December.
Other updates
- The ‘six month rule’ for any seats which would ordinarily come up for election next May will come into effect on Tuesday. Any vacancy in such a seat which happens on or after Tuesday will not be filled in a byelection.
