The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Changes of allegiance
- Cornwall: Paul Wills (St Columb Major, St Mawgan and St Wenn division), who is sitting as an ‘Independent Conservative Aligned’ councillor, has now been formally admitted to the Conservative group. In turn the group has been renamed ‘Conservative and Independent Conservative Aligned’.
- Dacorum: Goverdhan Silwal, who was elected for the Conservatives in Grovehill ward but left the party in March, has now joined the Labour Party.
- Dartford: Ricky Jones, who was elected for the Labour Party in Princes ward, has left the group and is sitting as an ungrouped councillor following remarks at a counter-demonstration in Walthamstow.
- Durham: Mike McGaun, who was elected for the Conservatives in Lanchester division but left the party in May to sit as an Independent, has now joined the County Durham Independents group.
- Highland: Duncan McDonald, an Independent councillor who was in the Highland Independent group until June, has now joined the Highland Alliance group.
- Kingston-upon-Thames: Kamala Kugan, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Coombe Vale ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Lancaster: Philip Bradley, who was elected for the Labour Party in Heysham South ward, has left the party and is sitting as an Independent councillor.
- Malvern Hills: Beverley Nielsen, who was elected as an Independent councillor for Great Malvern ward and sitting in the Democratic Independent group, has joined the Labour Party. She remains a member of the administration.
- Newark and Sherwood: Matthew Spoors, who was elected for the Labour Party in Devon ward, has joined the Green Party.
- North Lanarkshire: Bill Shields, who was elected for the Labour Party in Coatbridge North ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Redcar and Cleveland: Tristan Learoyd, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in St Germain’s ward, has left the party and is sitting as an ungrouped Independent councillor. It is also noted that three out of the four previously ungrouped Independent councillors have now joined the Independent Group.
- Windsor and Maidenhead: Kashmir Singh, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Riverside ward, has joined the Labour Party. Also Geoff Hill, an Independent councillor for Oldfield ward, has left ‘the Borough first Independents’ but remains in the Local Independents group of which they form part.
- Worcestershire: Beverley Nielsen, who was elected as an Independent county councillor for Malvern Langland division and had been sitting in the Green and Independent Alliance Group, has joined the Labour Party.
New vacancies
- Cornwall: Falmouth Penwerris division, after the resignation of Labour councillor Jayne Kirkham, now Member of Parliament for Truro and Falmouth. Term ends May next year.
- Denbighshire: Prestatyn North division, after the resignation of Labour councillor Gill German, now Member of Parliament for Clwyd North. Term ends 2027.
- Elmbridge: Weybridge St George’s Hill ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Charu Sood. Term ends 2026.
- Gedling: Bestwood St Albans ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Des Gibbons, who was elected for the Labour Party. Term ends 2027.
- Harlow: Little Parndon and Town Centre ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Chris Vince, now Member of Parliament for Harlow. Term ends 2028.
- Hartlepool: Burn Valley ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Jonathan Brash, now Member of Parliament for Hartlepool. Term ends 2026.
- Manchester: Baguley ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Phil Brickell, now Labour councillor for Bolton West. Term ends 2027.
- North Lanarkshire: Fortissat ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Kenneth Stevenson, now Member of Parliament for Airdrie and Shotts. Term ends 2027.
- North Lanarkshire: Mossend and Holytown ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Frank McNally, now Member of Parliament for Coatbridge and Bellshill. Term ends 2027.
- North Norfolk: North Walsham Market Cross ward, after the resignation of non-aligned councillor Richard Sims, who was elected as a Liberal Democrat. Term ends 2027.
- Perth and Kinross: Perth City North ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Brian Leishman, now Member of Parliament for Alloa and Grangemouth. Term ends 2027.
- Runnymede: Addlestone South ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Jonathan Wilson. Term ends 2026.
- Stockton-on-Tees: Fairfield ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Susan Scott. Term ends 2027.
- Waverley: Godalming Binscombe and Charterhouse ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Nick Palmer. Term ends 2027.
- Wolverhampton: Bilston North ward, after the death of Labour councillor Sue Roberts. Term ends 2027.

- Manchester: The byelection due in Baguley ward will be held on 5 September.
- Norfolk: The byelection due in Freebridge Lynn division will be held on 12 September.
