The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Changes of allegiance
- Cardiff: Two Conservative councillors have left the party to set up an Independent group. They are Peter Littlechild (Pontprennau and Old St Mellons ward) and Emma Reid-Jones (Lisvane and Thornhill ward).
- Cheshire West and Chester: Mandy Clare, who was elected as an Independent councillor for Winsford Dene ward but joined the Party of Women in March, has now left the party to sit as an non-aligned Independent again.
- Cornwall: Two councillors elected for the Conservatives have left the party to join a Non-aligned group on the council. They are John Conway (Launceston South division) and Adrian Harvey (St Newlyn East, Cubert and Goonhavern division). As a result the Conservatives no longer have an overall majority.
- Islington: The ‘Islington Independent Socialists’ group has been formed by two councillors who were elected for Labour. They are Matt Nathan (Clerkenwell ward), who left Labour in March last year, and Asima Shaikh (Finsbury Park ward), who made her move in October.
- King’s Lynn and West Norfolk: Micaela Bartrum, who was elected for the Labour Party in North Lynn ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Redditch: Sid Khan, who was elected for Labour in North ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Wrexham: Two councillors who have recently left Plaid Cymru have now joined the Labour Party. They are Emma Holland (Gwersyllt North ward) and Kate Wilkinson (Offa ward).
New vacancies
- Barking and Dagenham: Village ward, after the death of Labour councillor Lee Waker. Term ends 2026.
- Fylde: Warton ward, after the death of Independent councillor Julie Brickles. Term ends 2027.
- Hackney: Stoke Newington ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Mete Coban, who has been appointed as Deputy Mayor for Environment and Energy by Sadiq Khan. Term ends 2026.
- Merthyr Tydfil: Bedlinog and Trelewis ward, after the resignation of Independent group councillor Malcolm Colbran. Term ends 2027.
- Redcar and Cleveland: Longbeck ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Luke Myer, now Member of Parliament for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland.
Dates for byelections
- Camden: The byelection due in Camden Square ward will be held on 5 September.
- Camden: The byelection due in Kentish Town South ward will be held on 5 September.
- Camden: The byelection due in Kilburn ward will be held on 5 September.
- Merthyr Tydfil: The byelection due in Bedlinog and Trelewis ward will be held on 5 September.
- Northumberland: The byelection due in Cramlington Eastfield division will be held on 22 August.
