Results

  • Barnet: The byelection in Barnet Vale ward held on 4 July was won by Sue Baker. Labour hold.
  • Bassetlaw: The byelection in Rampton ward held on 4 July was won by Simon Richardson. Conservative hold.
  • Bedford: The byelection in Wyboston ward held on 4 July was won by Sharan Sira. Conservative hold.
  • Birmingham: The byelection in King’s Norton North ward held on 4 July was won by Carmel Corrigan. Labour hold.
  • Birmingham: The byelection in Northfield ward held on 4 July was won by Esther Rai. Labour hold.
  • Brent: The byelection in Queen’s Park ward held on 4 July was won by Lesley Smith. Labour hold.
  • Brighton and Hove: The byelection in Brunswick and Adelaide ward held on 4 July was won by Ollie Sykes who returns to the council. Green Party gain from Labour.

  • Wirral: The byelection in Liscard ward held on 4 July was won by Graeme Cooper. Labour hold.
  • York: The byelection in Hull Road ward held on 4 July was won by John Moroney. Labour hold.

Changes of allegiance

  • Buckinghamshire: Matt Knight, who was elected as a Wycombe Independent in Ryemead and Micklefield division, has left the group to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Cotswold: Chris Twells, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Tetbury with Upton ward, but was suspended from it and sitting as an Independent councillor, has joined the Liberal Party.
  • Durham: Angela Hanson, who was elected for the Labour Party in Stanley division, has left the party to sit as an ungrouped Independent. Likewise Sam McMahon, elected for Labour in Craghead and South Moor division, has also left the party to sit as an unaligned Independent councillor.
  • Hastings: John Rankin, who was elected for the Conservatives in Conquest ward but left the party to sit as an Independent councillor in September last year, has now joined the Labour Party.
  • Havering: Jacqueline McArdle, who was elected for the Conservatives in Rainham and Wennington ward but joined the Havering Residents’ Association in September 2022, has now returned to the Conservative Party.
  • Newham: Areeq Chowdhury, who was elected for the Labour Party in Canning Town North ward, has joined the Green Party.
  • Pembrokeshire: Andrew Edwards, a previously ungrouped councillor for Haverfordwest Prendergast division, has joined the Independent group.
  • Swale: James Hall, who was elected for Swale Independents Alliance in Murston ward, has left the group and is now an Independent councillor.
  • Swansea: Brigitte Rowlands, who was elected for the Conservatives in Clydach ward, has left the group and is sitting as an Independent councillor.
  • Torridge: Philip Pennington, an Independent councillor for Monkleigh and Putford ward, has left the Independent group to sit as a non-aligned councillor.
  • Walsall: Shakila Hussain, who was elected for Labour in Palfrey ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor. Meanwhile Nick Gandham, who had left the Conservative group in May, has now returned to it.
  • Wrexham: Emma Holland, who was elected for Plaid Cymru in Gwersyllt North ward, has left the party to sit as a non-aligned councillor.

New vacancy

  • Corporation of London: Cripplegate ward, after the elevation of Elizabeth King to the Aldermanic Bench. Term ends March next year.

Date for byelection

  • Stirling: The byelection due in Dunblane and Bridge of Allan ward will be held on 15 August.

Other updates

  • Central Bedfordshire: After several members of the Executive committee left their posts, council leader Adam Zerny has resigned his position. A new leader will have to be elected at the next full council meeting on 18 July.
