The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
- Amber Valley: The byelection in Wingfield ward held on 15 December was won by Dawn Harper. Conservative hold.
- Ipswich: The byelection in Priory Heath ward held on 15 December was won by Roxanne Downes. Labour hold.
- Pendle: The byelection in Barrowford and Pendleside ward held on 15 December was won by David Gallear. Conservative hold.
- South Kesteven: The byelection in Toller ward held on 8 December was won by Murray Turner. Liberal Democrat gain from Independent.
- Test Valley: The byelection in Andover Romans ward held on 15 December was won by Jason Sangster. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
- Wigan: The byelection in Ashton ward held on 15 December was won by Andrew Bullen on a possibly record low turnout of 5.34%. Labour hold.
Changes of allegiance
- Amber Valley: Ben Bellamy, who was elected for the Labour Party in Belper North ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Argyll and Bute: Tommy Macpherson, who remains a Conservative councillor for South Kintyre ward, but has gone into opposition on the council.
- Barking and Dagenham: Lynda Rice, who was elected for the Labour Party in Longbridge ward, has left the party and is sitting as an Independent councillor.
- Basingstoke and Deane: Following last week’s move by Onnalee Cubitt, her two Basing and Upton Grey ward colleagues have also left the Conservative group to sit as Independent members. They are Sven Godesen and Kate Tuck. Meanwhile Michael Howard-Sorrell, who was elected for the Labour Party in Brookvale and Kings Furlong ward, has left the party after he failed to win the Parliamentary selection for Basingstoke.
- Buckinghamshire: Andrea Baughan, who was elected as a Wycombe Independent in Ryemead and Micklefield ward, has joined the Labour Party. In addition Steve Guy (Totteridge and Bowerdean ward) has moved from the Wycombe Independents to be an Independent councillor in the IMPACT Alliance group.
- Clackmannanshire: Craig Holden, who was elected for the Scottish National Party in Clackmannanshire South ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Colchester: There has been a shuffle of membership involving the Green Party group. Mark Goacher (Castle ward), who left the group in September to sit as an Independent councillor, has returned; in exchange Steph Nissen (Castle ward) has joined the Labour Party.
- Highland: Andrew Jarvie, who was elected for the Conservatives in Wick and East Caithness ward, has left the party to sit as a non-aligned councillor.
- Southend-on-Sea: Tricia Cowdrey, who was elected for the Labour Party in Kursaal ward, has left the Labour group to sit as a non-aligned Independent councillor.
New vacancies
- Barnet: Golders Green ward, after the death of veteran councillor and former Mayor Melvin Cohen. Term ends 2026.
- Blaby: North Whetstone ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Sharon Coe. Her term would have ended in May so she will not be replaced in a byelection.
- Cheltenham: Battledown ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Louis Savage. He will not be replaced as his term would have ended in May.
- Epsom and Ewell: Stamford ward, after the resignation of Residents’ Association councillor Previn Jagutpal. His term was due to end in May so no byelection follows.
- Rother: Southern Rother ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Roger Bird. His resignation will not lead to a byelection as his term was due to end in May.
- South Lakeland: Bowness and Levens ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Brian Rendell. His term was due to end when the authority is abolished at the end of March so no byelection ensues.
Dates for byelections
- Aberdeen: The byelection due in Dyce, Bucksburn and Danestone ward will be held on 23 February.
- Staffordshire: The byelection due in Biddulph North division will be held on 19 January.
- Staffordshire Moorlands: The byelection for two seats due in Biddulph West ward will be held on 19 January.
- Torfaen: The byelection due in Llantarnam ward will be held on 2 February.
