The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Argyll and Bute: The byelection in Kintyre and the Islands ward held on 29 September was won by Alastair Redman. He stood as an Independent candidate and replaces another Independent councillor.
  • Harborough: The byelection in Market Harborough Logan ward held on 29 September was won by Geraldine Whitmore. Liberal Democrat hold.
  • Newark and Sherwood: The byelection in Edwinstowe and Clipstone ward held on 29 September was won by Andrew Freeman. Labour gain from Conservative.
  • Oxford: The byelection in Hinksey Park ward held on 29 September was won by Dr Anna Raylton. Labour hold.
  • Rhondda Cynon Taf: The byelection in Ynysybwl ward held on 29 September was won by Paula Evans. Plaid Cymru hold.
  • Rossendale: The byelection in Facit and Shawforth ward held on 29 September was won by Scott Smith. Conservative hold.
  • Rossendale: The byelection in Helmshore ward held on 29 September was won by Ann Hodgkiss. Conservative hold.
  • Warrington: The byelection for two seats in Grappenhall ward held on 29 September was won by Helen Speed and Mark Browne. Two Liberal Democrat holds.

New vacancies

  • Amber Valley: Wingfield ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Valerie Thorpe. Term ends May next year.
  • Braintree: Braintree South ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Dean Wallace, who was elected for the Conservatives. Term ends May next year.
  • Brighton and Hove: Wish ward, after the death of veteran Conservative councillor Garry Peltzer Dunn. Term ends May next year.
  • Copeland: Millom ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Fred Gleaves. Term ends when the authority is abolished at the end of March next year.
  • South Cambridgeshire: Longstanton ward, after the resignations of Liberal Democrat councillors Sarah Cheung Johnson and Alex Malyon. Terms end 2026.
  • Suffolk: Beccles division, after the resignation of Green Party councillor Peggy McGregor. Term ends 2025.
  • Waverley: Chiddingfold and Dunsfold ward, after the death of Conservative councillor John Gray. Term ends May next year.

Dates for byelections

  • Cannock Chase: The byelection due in Cannock West ward will be held on 10 November.
  • Croydon: The byelection due in Selsdon Vale and Forestdale ward will be held on 3 November.
  • Corporation of London: The byelection for a Common Councilman in Bridge and Bridge Without ward will be held on 3 November.
  • Nottinghamshire: The byelection due in Eastwood division will be held on 3 November.
  • South Cambridgeshire: The byelection for two seats in Longstanton ward will be held on 3 November.

Other updates

  • As of midnight on Friday 30 September, it will be less than six months before the abolition of several councils in local government reforms; accordingly byelections cannot be held to fill any vacancy in their memberships. The councils affected are Allerdale, Barrow-in-Furness, Carlisle, Copeland, Craven, Cumbria, Eden, Hambleton, Harrogate, Mendip, Richmondshire, Ryedale, Scarborough, Sedgemoor, Selby, Somerset West and Taunton, South Lakeland, and South Somerset.
