The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Buckinghamshire: The byelection in Bernwood ward held on 30 June was won by Sue Lewin. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
  • Croydon: The byelection in South Croydon ward held on 30 June was won by Danielle Denton. Conservative hold.
  • East Riding of Yorkshire: The byelection in Bridlington North ward held on 30 June was won by Jayne Phoenix. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative.
  • Eilean Siar: The byelection in Barraigh agus Bhatarsaigh ward held on 30 June was won by Iain Macneil, who was an Independent candidate. He fills a seat for which there were no nominations in May.
  • Eilean Siar: The byelection in Sgìr’ Ùige agus Carlabhagh ward held on 30 June was won by Norman Macdonald, who was an Independent candidate. He fills a seat for which there were no nominations in May.
  • Liverpool: The byelection in Fazakerley ward held on 30 June was won by Helen Stephens. Labour hold.
  • Middlesbrough: The byelection in Berwick Hills and Pallister ward held on 30 June was won by Ian Blades. Labour gain from an Independent.
  • Newark and Sherwood: The byelection in Ollerton ward held on 30 June was won by Mike Pringle. Labour hold.
  • South Derbyshire: The byelection in Midway ward held on 30 June was won by Louise Mulgrew. Labour gain from an Independent, who had been elected as a Conservative.
  • Wyre: The byelection in Cleveleys Park ward held on 30 June was won by Richard Rendell. Conservative hold.

Changes of allegiance

  • Darlington: Kevin Nicholson, who had been part of the Darlington Independent group, has moved to the (rival) Independent group. He remains a cabinet member in what is now a Conservative/Independent coalition administration.
  • Exeter: David Harvey, who was elected for the Labour Party in Pinhoe ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Hyndburn: Joyce Plummer, who was elected for the Labour Party in Peel ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor. She had been the last remaining Labour member of the cabinet.
  • Lancaster: Four members of the Morecambe Bay Independents have left to set up the Bay Independent group. They are Paul Anderton (Torrisholme ward), Victoria Boyd-Power (Heysham North ward), Jake Goodwin (Westgate ward) and Cary Matthews (Heysham Central ward). Matthews remains in the coalition cabinet.
  • Manchester: Ekua Bayunu, who was elected for the Labour Party in Hulme ward, has joined the Green Party.
  • Plymouth: Terri Beer, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Plympton Erle ward but left the party in March, has now returned.
  • Rugby: Jim Ellis, who was elected for the Labour Party in Newbold and Brownsover ward but left the party group in May, has now returned.
  • Stroud: The council leader Doina Cornell, who was elected for the Labour Party in Dursley ward, has left the party following her exclusion from the selection of a Parliamentary candidate. She has been followed by her ward colleague Trevor Hall. The future of the ‘Cooperative alliance’ coalition administration is uncertain.
  • Thanet: George Rusiecki, who was elected for the Thanet Independents in Northwood ward, has joined the Conservative Party.

New vacancies

  • Harborough: Market Harborough Logan ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Dominic Fosker. Term ends 2023.
  • Lancaster: Warton ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Adrian De La Mare (formerly Adrian Duggan). Term ends 2023.
  • Ryedale: Rillington ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Nathan Garbutt-Moore. Term ends when the authority is abolished at the end of March next year.
