The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Cotswold: The byelection in Campden and Vale ward held on 3 February was won by Tom Stowe. Conservative hold.
  • Dacorum: The byelection in Berkhamsted West ward held on 3 February was won by Anne Foster. Liberal Democrat hold.
  • Dacorum: The byelection in Boxmoor ward held on 3 February was won by Simy Dhyani. Liberal Democrat hold.
  • Leicester: The byelection in Evington ward held on 3 February was won by Shahid Ullah Khan. Labour hold.
  • Manchester: The byelection in Ancoats and Beswick ward held on 3 February was won by Alan Good. Liberal Democrat gain from Labour.
  • Tamworth: The byelection in Spital ward held on 3 February was won by Chris Cooke, who returns to the council as a Conservative after previously serving Glascote ward as an Independent and UK Independence Party member. Conservative hold.

Changes of allegiance

  • Aberdeenshire: Jeff Hutchison, who was elected for the Conservatives in Mearns ward, has left the party to join the Aligned Independent group.
  • Allerdale: Owen Martin, who was elected for the Conservatives in Silloth and Solway Coast ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Brighton and Hove: Anne Pissaridou, who was elected for the Labour Party in North Portslade ward but was suspended from the whip in July 2020, has been readmitted to the Labour group.
  • Forest of Dean: Roger Yeates, who was elected for the Conservatives in Dymock ward, has left the party to form the ‘Independent Group 2’ with previously non-aligned councillor Brian Robinson (Longhope and Huntley ward).
  • Gloucestershire: Alastair Chambers, who was elected for the Conservatives in Gloucester Coney Hill and Matson division, has left the party and is sitting as an Independent Conservative, due to ongoing legal proceedings.
  • Mansfield: Amanda Fisher, who was elected for the Labour Party in Woodhouse ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Reading: Chris Maskell, who was elected for the Labour Party in Battle ward, has left the party after an investigation was begun into his social media use.
  • Scarborough: Two Conservative councillors have left the group to sit as ‘no political affiliation’. They are Alf Abbott (Whitby West Cliff ward) and Glenn Goodberry (Mayfield ward). In addition Andrew Backhouse (Burniston and Cloughton ward), who was elected as a Conservative but had joined the Independent group, has now left that group, also to sit as ‘no political affiliation’.
  • Swale: Two members of the Swale Independents Alliance group have left to set up the Independents First group. They are Richard Darby (Minster Cliffs ward) and Bill Tatton (Sheppey East ward).

New vacancies

  • Carlisle: Botcherby and Harraby North ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Jack Paton. His term is currently due to end in May so no byelection may be called.
  • Carlisle: Longtown and the Border ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Val Tarbitt. Term ends 2023.
  • Cumbria: Longtown division, after the death of Conservative councillor Val Tarbitt. No byelection is due as her term was due to end in May.
  • Horsham: Storrington and Washington ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Jim Sanson. Term ends 2023.
  • Kingston-upon-Thames: Alexandra ward, after the resignation of Green Party councillor Sharron Falchikov-Sumner, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats. Her term would have ended in May so no byelection will follow.
  • Liverpool: Everton ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Ian Byrne, now Member of Parliament for Liverpool West Derby. Term ends 2023.
  • Liverpool: Warbreck ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Cheryl Didsbury. Term ends 2023.
  • Ryedale: Sherburn ward, after the resignation of Ryedale First Independent councillor John Raper. Term ends 2023.
  • Sutton: Beddington South ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor and deputy leader of the council Manuel Abellan. As his term was to have ended in May he will not be replaced in a byelection.
  • West Lancashire: Burscough East ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor David Evans. Term ends 2024.
  • Wigan: Leigh East ward, after the death of Labour councillor Anita Thorpe. Term ends 2023.

Dates for byelections

  • Hertfordshire: The byelection due in Hitchin South division will be held on 10 March.
  • North Hertfordshire: The byelection due in Hitchin Highbury ward will be held on 10 March.
  • Rutland: The byelection due in Ryhall and Casterton ward will be held on 10 March.
