The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

• Charnwood: The byelection for two seats in Loughborough Shelthorpe ward held on 20 January was won by Anne Gray and Beverley Jane Gray. Labour hold both seats.
• East Lindsey: The byelection in Chapel St Leonards ward held on 20 January was won by Stephen Evans. Conservative hold.
• East Lothian: The byelection in Preston, Seton and Gosford ward held on 20 January was won by Colin Yorkston. Labour hold.
• Selby: The byelection in Byram and Brotherton ward held on 20 January was won by Georgina Ashton. Conservative gain from Yorkshire Party (who did not defend the seat).

Changes of allegiance

• Bradford: Two Conservative councillors have left the party group. They are Luke Majkowski (Queensbury ward) and Joan Clarke (Wyke ward).
• Bury: Gareth Staples-Jones, who was elected for Radcliffe First in Radcliffe West ward but recently left the party, has now joined the Labour Party.
• Derby: James Testro, who was elected for the Conservatives in Derwent ward but left the party in March 2021, has now joined the Liberal Democrats.
• East Dunbartonshire: Sheila Mechan, who was elected for the Conservatives in Bearsden North ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
• Elmbridge: Simon Waugh, who was elected for the Conservatives in Esher ward, has joined the Esher Residents Association, which is part of the Residents’ Association group on the council.
• Gwynedd: Dylan Bullard, who was elected as an Independent in Pwllheli North division and joined Propel in April 2020, has left the party to sit as an Individual member.
• Newport: Chris Evans, who was elected for the Newport Independents Party in Rogerstone division, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor, following a recent court case.
• St Helens: David O’Keefe, who was elected for the Green Party in Bold ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor. It is also noted that Kate Stevenson (Rainhill ward) has joined The Independents group.
• Sandwell: Ian Chambers, who was elected for the Conservatives in Wednesbury South ward, has joined the Labour Party.
• South Ayrshire: Hugh Hunter, who was elected for the Conservatives in Prestwick ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
• South Ribble: Paul Wharton-Hardman, who was elected in Farington East ward as Conservative but left the party in October 2020, has joined the Labour Party.

New vacancies

• East Riding of Yorkshire: South Hunsley ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Vanessa Walker. Term ends 2023.
• Horsham: Denne ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Frances Haigh. Term ends 2023.
• Ipswich: St Johns ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Shelly Darwin. Term ends 2023.
• South Ayrshire: Ayr West ward, after the resignation of Scottish National Party councillor Siobhian Brown, now Member of the Scottish Parliament for Ayr. Her term was due to end in May so no byelection will follow.
• Staffordshire Moorlands: Cheadle South East ward, after the death of non-aligned Independent councillor Richard Alcock. Term ends 2023.
• Telford and Wrekin: Brookside ward, after the death of Labour councillor Jackie Loveridge. Term ends 2023.

Dates for byelections

• Allerdale: The byelection due in Stainburn and Clifton ward will be held on 17 February.
• Durham: The byelection due in Ferryhill division will be held on 24 February.
• Maldon: The byelection due in Wickham Bishops and Woodham ward will be held on 24 February.
• South Somerset: The byelection due in Neroche ward will be held on 3 March.

Other updates

• Derby: The council is to move to all-out elections from May 2023.
• Sandwell: The Secretary of State has indicated that he is minded to appoint commissioners to take over some functions of the council, following concerns over governance.
