The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
Perth and Kinross: The byelection in Perth City North ward held on 26 November was won by Ian Massey. Scottish National Party hold.
Perth and Kinross: The byelection in Perth City South ward held on 26 November was won by Liz Barrett. Liberal Democrat gain from Scottish National Party.
Hyndburn: Two Conservative councillors have had the party whip suspended for two months after voting for a Labour motion. They are Patrick McGinley (Overton ward) and Josh Allen (Immanuel ward).
Wealden: Kay Moss, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Crowborough North ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
New vacancies
Adur: Churchill ward, after the death of veteran Conservative councillor Pat Beresford. Term ends 2022.
Argyll and Bute: Isle of Bute ward, after the death of the council’s Provost Len Scoullar, who was an Independent councillor. Term ends 2022.
Blackpool: Norbreck ward, after the death of Independent councillor Peter Callow, who was council leader 2007-11 as a Conservative. Term ends 2023.
Hyndburn: Overton ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Stephanie Haworth. Her term had been extended to May next year so no byelection will be held.
Torbay: Clifton with Maidenway ward, after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Ian Doggett. Term ends 2023.
Dates for byelections
In England, all current vacancies which do not fill a term ending in 2021 will be held on 6 May 2021, the ordinary day for local elections. The Cabinet Office has confirmed that local elections teams should not plan on this date being brought forward. In Wales, all byelections will be held in a period between 1 February and 16 April 2021.
Highland: The byelection due in Aird and Loch Ness ward will be held on 11 March 2021.
