Lib Dem hunts down victory

The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Huntingdonshire: The byelection in Godmanchester and Hemingford Abbotts ward held on 1 August was won by Sarah Wilson. Liberal Democrat hold.
  • Corporation of London: The byelection for a common councilman in Coleman Street ward held on 30 July was won by Dawn Wright.
  • Stockport: The byelection in Hazel Grove ward held on 1 August was won by Charles Gibson. Liberal Democrat hold.

Changes of allegiance

  • Castle Point: Steven Cole has left the Conservative Party and is now sitting as an Independent councillor.
  • South Kesteven: Susan Sandall, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Stamford St John’s ward, has left the group and is sitting as an unaligned councillor; meanwhile Phil Dilks, elected as an Independent in Deeping St James ward but sometimes associated with the Labour Party, is now once again sitting as an Independent councillor.
  • West Lindsey: Roger Patterson, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Scampton ward, has been suspended from the party arising from his account on Twitter.

New vacancies

  • Eden: Penrith South ward, after the death of Independent councillor Paul Connor. Term ends 2023.
  • Liverpool: Old Swan ward, after the resignation of the Lord Mayor, Peter Brennan, who had been elected for the Labour Party. Term ends 2023.
  • Rushmoor: St Mark’s ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Alain Dekker who is moving to Berlin. Term ends 2023.
  • Somerset West and Taunton: Norton Fitzwarren and Staplegrove ward, after the death of Independent councillor Jean Adkins. Term ends 2023.
  • Somerset West and Taunton: Vivary ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Catherine Herbert. Term ends 2023.

Dates for byelections

  • Canterbury: The byelection due in Chestfield ward will be held on 19 September.
  • Eden: The byelection due in Penrith South ward will be held on 5 September.
  • Kingston upon Hull: The byelection due in St Andrews and Docklands ward will be held on 5 September.
  • North Yorkshire: The byelection due in Upper Dales division will be held on 12 September.
  • Richmondshire: The byelection due in Hawes, High Abbotside and Upper Swaledale ward will be held on 12 September.
  • Rushmoor: The byelection due in St Mark’s ward will be held on 12 September.
