The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
- Neath Port Talbot: The byelection in Resolven division held on 23 May was won by Dean Lewis. Independent gain from Labour.
- Tendring: The postponed election in St Osyth ward held on 23 May was won by Michael Talbot and John White, who both stood as Independent candidates. Both were sitting members of the council.
Changes of allegiance
- Redbridge: Robin Turbefield, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Bridge ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Trafford: Raymond Bowker, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Village ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent Liberal Democrat councillor.
New vacancies
- Cardiff: Cyncoed division, after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Wendy Congreve. Term ends 2022.
- Gloucester: Barnwood ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Lise Noakes. Term ends 2020.
- Mansfield: Sandhurst ward, after the disqualification of Andy Abrahams who was elected Mayor. Term ends 2023.
- Middlesbrough: Park End and Beckfield ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Jan Mohan (who had just been named to the cabinet). Term ends 2023.
- Richmond-upon-Thames: North Sheen ward, after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Mona Adams. Term ends 2022.
Dates for byelections
- Mansfield: The byelection due in Sandhurst ward will be held on 27 June.
- Wiltshire: The byelection due in Trowbridge Drynham division will be held on 4 July.
Other updates
- Allerdale: A coalition of the Allerdale Independents and Conservatives will run the council, with a leader from the Independent group (a separate group to the Allerdale Independents).
- Arun: There is a minority Liberal Democrat administration.
- Babergh: A coalition has been formed between the Conservatives, Independents and Liberal Democrats. The Green Party, left in opposition, is not happy.
- Basildon: It had been thought that the UK Independence Party would support a minority Conservative administration, but she had second thoughts and the council will now be run by agreement between Labour, the Independent group, and the Wickford Independents.
- Bolsover: Eight Independent councillors voted for a Labour leadership of the council, and as a result Labour will continue as a minority administration.
- Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole: A “Unity Alliance” formed by the Liberal Democrats, Christchurch Independents, Poole People, Labour, other Independents, Greens and Alliance for Local Living councillors has taken control of the council.
- Brighton and Hove: The Labour and Green Party groups have agreed to work together, but Labour will form the administration and the Green Party the official opposition.
- Burnley: Amid complaints that Labour has not engaged with other parties, the opposition parties have been meeting together to seek common ground.
- Carlisle: The council will be run by a minority Conservative administration after the Conservatives won the leadership by one vote.
- Cheshire West and Chester: Labour will continue to run the council; the party has exactly half of the seats.
- Chichester: There is a Conservative minority administration.
- Derby: A Conservative administration will continue, having been supported by UK Independence Party and Liberal Democrat councillors.
- East Devon: The council is now under control by the Independent group with the support of the East Devon Alliance.
- Folkestone and Hythe: It is confirmed that the council will be run by a full coalition between the Conservatives, UK Independence Party and Independent councillors.
- Forest of Dean: A new cabinet has been formed by the Independent Alliance, Green Party and Labour groups.
- Guildford: The Executive has been formed from the Liberal Democrat, Residents for Guildford and Villages and Guildford Greenbelt Groups.
- Hartlepool: The new council leadership is the product of an agreement between the Independent Union and Conservative groups, and also includes councillors from the Independent group, Putting Seaton First and the Socialist Labour Party.
- Herefordshire: The council will be run by a coalition of the Herefordshire Independents, It’s Our County and Green Party groups.
- Lancaster: A coalition of Labour and the Green Party has been formed to run the council; it is supported by the Liberal Democrats although they are not part of the administration.
- Lewes: Despite attempts by some of the opposition parties to put together a challenge, the Conservatives have retained minority control of the council.
- Maidstone: There will be a Liberal Democrat leader and Independent deputy leader of the council.
- Mendip: A minority Liberal Democrat administration has taken over.
- Mid Devon: The Independent, Liberal Democrat and Green Party groups have combined to form an administration; an Independent will be the council leader.
- Mid Suffolk: The Conservatives retained the leadership of the council on the chair’s casting vote, and have named a Conservative/Independent coalition.
- North Hertfordshire: A joint administration has been formed by Labour and the Liberal Democrats.
- St Albans: The council will be run by a Liberal Democrat minority administration.
- Stockton-on-Tees: There will be a Labour minority administration. .
- Tandridge: With other gorups failing to agree any alternative administration, at the annual council meeting the Liberal Democrat group voted for a Conservative leader. A minority Conservative administration has been formed.
- Thurrock: The minority Conservative administration on the council is continuing.
- Vale of Glamorgan: A new administration has been formed by the Labour, Vale Independents and Llantwit First Independents groups.
- Waverley: An alliance has been formed by the Farnham Residents, Liberal Democrats, Labour and Green Parties, and is now in control of the council.
