Changes of allegiance

New vacancies

  • Chichester: Selsey North ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Darren Wakeham. The term would have ended in May so no byelection will be held.
  • East Hertfordshire: Bishop’s Stortford All Saints ward, after the disqualification of Conservative councillor Stan Stainsby who failed to attend any meetings of the council for six months. His term would have ended in May so there will be no byelection.
  • East Hertfordshire: Mundens and Cottered ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Paul Kenealy. His term would have ended in May so there will be no byelection.
  • Eastbourne: Sovereign ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Gordon Jenkins. His term would have ended in May so he will not be replaced in a byelection.
  • Forest of Dean: Coleford East ward, after the resignation of UK Independence Party councillor Martin Hill. There will not be a byelection as his term was due to end in May.
  • Reigate and Banstead: Nork ward, after the resignation of Nork Residents’ Association councillor Jonathan White. His term would have ended in May so no byelection can be held.
  • Uttlesford: Saffron Walden Shire ward, after the resignation of Residents 4 Uttlesford councillor Aisha Anjum. As her term would have ended in May, there will be no byelection.

Other updates

  • Thanet: After some wrangling over the issue, the council has insisted that Ian Venables (who was elected as a Labour councillor in Margate Central ward) was disqualified from serving as a councillor through working on secondment for the council’s rough sleeping housing team. However as his council term was due to expire in May, the council believe that it is covered by the ‘six month rule’ so that no byelection may be held.
