The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Results
- East Devon: The byelection in Ottery St Mary Rural ward held on 20 September was won by Geoff Pratt, who was an Independent candidate. It is in effect a seat held by the Independent group.
- Epsom and Ewell: The byelection in Nonsuch ward held on 20 September was won by Colin Keane. Residents’ Association hold.
- Luton: The byelection in Limbury ward held on 13 September was won by Amy Nicholls. Labour hold.
- Suffolk Coastal: The byelection in Wenhaston and Westleton ward held on 20 September was won by Michael Gower. Conservative hold. It is likely to be the last ever election to Suffolk Coastal as the council will cease to exist in April.
- Winchester: The byelection in Upper Meon Valley ward held on 20 September was won by Hugh Lumby. Conservative hold, thereby retaining their majority on the council.
- Wyre Forest: The byelection in Bewdley and Rock ward held on 20 September was won by Anna Coleman. Conservative hold.
Changes of allegiance
- Darlington: Alan Coultas, who was elected for the Conservatives in Hummersknott ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
- Havant: Two councillors for Hart Plain ward, who left the Conservatives to sit as Independents in July 2016, have now returned to the party. They are husband and wife team Elaine and Gerald Shimbart.
- Kings’s Lynn and West Norfolk: Toby Wing-Pentelow, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Springwood ward, has left the party group and is siting as an Independent councillor; he has been the subject of a recent standards investigation.
- North Tyneside: Frances Weetman, who was elected for the Labour Party in Tynemouth ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor. She is opposed to the party’s handling of antisemitism claims.
New vacancies
- Bassetlaw: East Retford West ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Alan Chambers, who was elected for the Labour Party but left it in May 2017. Term ends May next year.
- Hartlepool: Hart ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Paul Beck. Term ends May next year.
- Newham: Boleyn ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Veronica Oakeshott who is moving out of the borough. Term ends 2022.
- Thanet: Margate Central ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Ian Venables. Term ends May next year.

- Ashford: The byelection due in Kennington ward will be held on 25 October.
- Dorset: The byelection due in Ferndown division will be held on 25 October.
- East Dorset: The byelection due in Ferndown Central ward will be held on 25 October.
- Hartlepool: The byelection due in Hart ward will be held on 11 October.
- Hertfordshire: The byelection due in Three Rivers Rural division will be held on 25 October.
- Kirklees: The byelection due in Denby Dale ward will be held on 1 November.
- Mendip: The byelection due in Wells St Thomas’ ward will be held on 25 October.
- Newham: The byelection due in Boleyn ward will be held on 1 November.
- South Derbyshire: The byelection due in Linton ward will be held on 25 October.
- Suffolk: The byelection due in Bosmere division will be held on 25 October.
Other updates
- Rotherham: The Secretary of State has announced that the commissioners will be withdrawn on 24 September and central government’s intervention ended in the remaining areas. Most powers had already been returned to the council following the intervention in February 2015.
