The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Changes of allegiance

• Cambridge: Donald Adey, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Trumpington ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent. He no longer lives in the City and was under disciplinary investigation.
• Cambridgeshire: Donald Adey, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Trumpington division, has left the party to sit as an Independent. He no longer lives in the county and was under disciplinary investigation.
• North Lanarkshire: Tommy Cochrane, who was elected for the Scottish National Party in Fortissat ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
• Portsmouth: John Ferrett, who was elected for the Labour Party in Paulsgrove ward but left the party in September 2016, has now joined Renew.

New vacancies

• Bath and North East Somerset: Kingsmead ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Chris Pearce. Term ends 2019.
• Broadland: Aylsham ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Ian Graham. Term ends 2019.
• Charnwood: Quorn and Mountsorrel Castle ward, after the death of former Conservative council leader David Slater. Term ends 2019.
• East Hertfordshire: Watton-at-Stone ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Michael Freeman. Term ends 2019.
• Leicestershire: Syston Ridgeway division, after the death of Conservative councillor David Slater. Term ends 2021.
• North East Lincolnshire: Freshney ward, after the impending resignation of Labour councillor Ray Sutton who is moving out of the borough. Term ends 2019.
• Waveney: Pakefield ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Sonia Barker. Term ends 2019.
• Waveney: Southwold and Reydon ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Sue Allen. Term ends 2019.

Postponed local election

• Southwark: London Bridge and Bermondsey West ward will hold its postponed election on 14 June.

Date for byelection

• Broadland: The byelection due in Aylsham ward will be held on 24 May.

Other updates

• Colchester: Following the elections, the Liberal Democrat, Labour and Highwoods Independent groups have come to an agreement to continue their coalition – although they now only have a majority of one seat over the Conservatives.
• Derby: With the council now without a majority, there are discussions over its future leadership. The Liberal Democrat group are unwilling to go into coalition but propose a return to the committee system, a proposal supported by the Conservatives and UK Independence Party. The new Labour group leader Lisa Eldret is reaching out to other parties.
• Milton Keynes: The Conservatives, who now have more councillors than Labour, are putting forward a motion to remove the Labour leader of the council Peter Marland. Labour has offered to form a coalition with the Liberal Democrats who hold the balance of power; the Liberal Democrats have not yet decided what to do.
• Northamptonshire: Following his previous indication, the Secretary of State has appointed commissioners to take over running the council. The appointment runs until 31 March 2021 or such time as the Secretary of State revokes it.
• North East Lincolnshire: Following the elections the council is under no overall control, and the Liberal Democrats hold the balance of power over its future leadership.
• Nuneaton and Bedworth: Labour are expected to continue to run a minority administration after losing their majority.
• Trafford: The Conservative group has announced it will not seek to form a coalition to hold on to control of the council, Labour are having talks with the Liberal Democrats, but have ruled out any agreement with the Green Party.
• Walsall: The Conservatives are one seat short of a majority and have announced they will attempt to form a minority administration.
• Worcester: The all-party committee system led administration is certain to continue, but there may be an attempt to reverse the rule that the leader of the party with most seats automatically becomes council leader.
