The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.
Enfield: The byelection in Enfield Highway ward on 7 December was won by Ergun Eren. Labour hold.
North Devon: The byelection in Newport ward on 7 December was won by Caroline Leaver. Liberal Democrat gain from Conservative. As a result the council administration, run by the Conservatives and South Molton Independents, no longer has a majority.
Tower Hamlets: Abjol Miah, who was elected for Tower Hamlets First in St Peter’s ward, but has been sitting as an ungrouped Independent since June 2015, has now joined the People’s Alliance of Tower Hamlets group.
Barking and Dagenham: Heath ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Dan Young (who was elected as Labour but left the party in December 2014). As his term would have ended in May, there will be no byelection.
Falkirk: Bonnybridge and Larbert ward, after the death of the Provost of Falkirk Tom Coleman who was a Scottish National Party councillor. Term ends 2022.
Hounslow: Bedfont ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Sachin Gupta. His term was due to end in May so there will not be a byelection for a replacement.
Hounslow: Chiswick Riverside ward, after the resignation of Conservativecouncillor Felicity Barwood. She was due to end her term in May so there will not be a byelection in this ward either.
Hounslow: Hanworth Park ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Tina Howe. As with other London councillors, she was in a term ending in May and so no byelection can be called.
Isle of Wight: Central Wight division, after the impending resignation of Conservative councillor Bob Seely, now Member of Parliament for Isle of Wight. Term ends 2021.
Newcastle upon Tyne: South Jesmond ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Kerry Allibhai. Her term was due to end in May as the council is affected by boundary changes and having an all-out election; therefore there will be no byelection.
Sefton: Blundellsands ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Andy Dams. His term was due to end in May so he will not be replaced in a byelection.
South Cambridgeshire: Bourn ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Simon Crocker. As the council is moving to all-out elections as from May next year, there will be no byelection.
West Oxfordshire: Carterton South ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Mick Brennan. Term ends 2019.
Date for byelection
Bournemouth: The byelection due in Throop and Muscliff ward will be held on 18 January 2018.
Kent: The byelection due in Birchington and Rural division will be held on 11 January 2018.
Lancashire: The byelection due in Wyre Rural Central division will be held on 11 January 2018.
Thanet: The byelection due in Thanet Villages ward will be held on 11 January 2018.
Wyre: The byelection due in Preesall ward will be held on 11 January 2018.
Newcastle-under-Lyme: After an independent report into problems at the general election made strong criticisms of the Returning Officer and two senior staff were suspended, the Labour leader of the council pre-empted a motion of no confidence by resigning and forcing a vote to elect a new leader. The Borough Independents, who had withdrawn support from Labour over the issue, voted for a Conservative leader along with other groups and so a minority Conservative administration has taken over.
