Mass resignation week

The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows. There are an unusually large number of resignations this week so that byelections can take place on 4 May, at the same time as the county council and Mayoral elections will be held.

Results

  • Blackpool: The byelection in Warbreck ward on 16 March was won by Michele Scott. Conservative hold.
  • Breckland: The byelection in Saham Toney ward on 16 March was won by Theresa Hewett. Conservative hold.
  • Newcastle upon Tyne: The byelection in South Heaton ward on 16 March was won by Clare Penny-Evans. Labour hold.
  • South Ribble: The byelection in Walton-le-Dale East ward on 16 March was won by Carol Chisholm. The Conservatives regain a seat they lost through defection.

New vacancies

  • Aylesbury Vale: Wendover and Halton ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Andrew Southam. Term ends 2019.
  • Birmingham: Perry Barr ward, after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Ray Hassall. Term ends 2020.
  • Bradford: Queensbury ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Lisa Carmody for health and family reasons. Term ends 2019.
  • Camden: Gospel Oak ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Maeve McCormack who has found herself priced out of the borough. Term ends 2018.
  • Carlisle: Belle Vue ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Jacqui Franklin. Term ends 2019.
  • Carlisle: Yewdale ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Tom Dodd. Term ends 2019. As a result of these vacancies, Labour no longer has an overall majority on the council.
  • Chiltern: Great Missenden ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Seb Berry. Term ends 2019.
  • Craven: Aire Valley with Lothersdale ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Pat Fairbank. Term ends 2020.
  • Dacorum: Berkhamsted West ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Julian Ashbourn. Term ends 2019.
  • Daventry: Long Buckby ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Diana Osborne. Term ends 2019.
  • East Devon: Broadclyst ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Maria Hale. Term ends 2019.
  • East Devon: Whimple ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Peter Bowden. Term ends 2019.
  • East Northamptonshire: Prebendal ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Valerie Raven-Hill. Term ends 2019.
  • Eastleigh: Eastleigh Central ward, after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Keith Trenchard. Term ends 2019.
  • Fylde: Warton and Westby ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Richard Taylor. Term ends 2019.
  • Hertsmere: Potters Bar Oakmere ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Penny Swallow. Term ends 2019.
  • Huntingdonshire: St Neots Eaton Ford ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor David Harty. Term ends 2019.
  • Kettering: Burton Latimer ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Derek Zanger due to ill health. Term ends 2019.
  • Lichfield: Fazeley ward, after the resignation of UK Independence Party councillor John Mills. Term ends 2019.
  • Maidstone: Bearsted ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Mike Revell. Term ends 2020.
  • North Hertfordshire: Hitchin Priory ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Allison Ashley. Term ends 2018.
  • North Hertfordshire: Royston Heath ward, after the death of Conservative councillor Peter Burt. Term ends 2019.
  • Nuneaton and Bedworth: Bulkington ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Terry Doherty. Term ends 2018.
  • Oxford: Barton and Sandhills ward, after the death of Labour councillor Van Coulter. Term ends 2018.
  • Preston: Ashton ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Angela Vodden. Term ends 2020.
  • Reigate and Banstead: Tadworth and Walton ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor James Clarke. Term ends 2019.
  • Runnymede: Foxhills ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Howard Butterfield. Term ends 2018.
  • Rushcliffe: Thoroton ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Adeline Pell. Term ends 2019.
  • Sedgemoor: Bridgwater Eastover ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Moira Brown. Term ends 2017.
  • South Cambridgeshire: Bourn ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Mervyn Loynes. Term ends 2020.
  • South Northamptonshire: Kings Sutton ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Ian Morris. Term ends 2019.

  • Uttlesford: Newport ward, after the resignation of Residents 4 Uttlesford councillor Joanna Parry. Term ends 2019.
  • Watford: Leggatts ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Anne Joynes. Term ends 2020.
  • Welwyn Hatfield: Panshanger ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Martyn Levitt. Term ends 2020.
  • West Oxfordshire: The Bartons ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Robert Courts, now Member of Parliament for Witney. Term ends 2018.
  • Wiltshire: Trowbridge Lambrok division, after the resignation of Independent councillor Helen Osborn due to ill health. As the full council elections are due on 4 May there will be no byelection.
  • Windsor and Maidenhead: Clewer North ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor John Collins. Term ends 2019.
  • Worcester: Bedwardine ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor David Wilkinson, who has moved outside the city (and is also a councillor in Wychavon). Term ends 2018.
  • Wychavon: Droitwich South East ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Maureen Lawley. Term ends 2019.
  • Wychavon: Evesham South ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Kenneth Barclay-Timmis. Term ends 2019.
