The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Denbighshire: The byelection in Rhyl West division on 27 October was won by Alan James. Labour hold.
  • Rother: The byelection in Collington ward on 27 October was won by Deirdre Earl-Williams. Independent hold.
  • Rother: The byelection in Darwell ward on 27 October was won by John Barnes, a well known historian. Conservative hold.

Changes of allegiance

  • Somerset: Derek Tanswell, who was elected for the UK Independence Party in Frome West division, has left the party to sit as an Independent member.
  • Staffordshire Moorlands: Julie Bull, who was elected for the Conservative Party in Cheadle North East ward, has left the Conservative group after an adverse standards finding. She is the current Chairman of the council but the council has no power to remove her.

New vacancies

  • Chichester: Southbourne ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Bruce Finch. Term ends 2019.
  • Dorset: Ferndown division, after the resignation of UK Independence Party county councillor Ian Smith. Term ends May next year.
  • Tower Hamlets: Whitechapel ward, after the disqualification of Independent councillor Shahed Ali who was sentenced to five months’ imprisonment for housing fraud. Term ends 2018.

Dates for byelections

  • Angus: The byelection due in Carnoustie and District ward will be held on Monday 5 December.
  • Chichester: The byelection due in Southbourne ward will be held on 1 December.
  • Dorset: The byelection due in Ferndown division will be held on 1 December.
  • Fife: The byelection due in Leven, Kennoway and Largo ward will be held on 15 December.
  • South Northamptonshire: The byelection due in Grange Park ward will be held on 1 December.
