The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows. All councils have now been updated to their post-2016 election compositions. Here are the results for the byelections in authorities which had no other elections.

  • Barnet: The byelection in Underhill ward was won by Jess Brayne. Labour hold.
  • Barrow-in-Furness: The byelection in Dalton South ward was won by Shaun Blezard. Labour hold.
  • Braintree: The byelection in Witham South ward was won by Gavin Maclure. Conservative hold.
  • Breckland: The byelection in Attleborough Queens and Besthorpe ward was won by Stephen Askew. Conservative hold.
  • Brent: The byelection in Kilburn ward was won by Barbara Pitruzzella. Labour hold.
  • Cambridgeshire: The byelection in St Neots Eaton Socon and Eynesbury division was won by Simone Taylor. Independent hold.
  • Canterbury: The byelection in Reculver was won by Ann Taylor. Conservative hold.
  • Croydon: The byelection in West Thornton ward was won by Callton Young. Labour hold.
  • Doncaster: The byelection in Kirk Sandall and Edenthorpe ward was won by Andrea Robinson. Labour hold.
  • East Hampshire: The byelection in Clanfield and Finchdean ward was won by Nigel Wren. Conservative hold.
  • East Riding of Yorkshire: The byelection in East Wolds and Coastal ward was won by Paul Lisseter. Conservative hold.
  • East Sussex: The byelection in St Helens and Silverhill division was won by Judy Rogers. Labour hold.
  • Forest Heath: The byelection in Brandon West ward was won by Victor Lukaniuk. West Sussex Independents gain from Conservative.

  • Newport: St Julian’s division, after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Ed Townsend. Term ends 2017.

Date for byelection

  • Essex: The byelection due in Basildon Laindon Park and Fryerns division will be held on 9 June.
