BANES says No to directly-elected Mayor

The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

Cumbria: The byelection in Kendal Strickland and Fell division on 10 March was won by Peter Thornton. Liberal Democrat hold.
Windsor and Maidenhead: The byelection in Maidenhead Riverside ward on 10 March was won by Judith Diment. Conservative hold.

North Lanarkshire: Four councillors who were elected for the Labour Party have resigned the party whip following a change of leader. They are
Helen McKenna and Peter Nolan (both representing Motherwell North ward), Jim Smith (Coatbridge West ward) and Sam Love (Wishaw ward).

Basildon: Lee Chapel North ward, after the resignation of UK Independence Party councillor Trevor Malsbury. As his term was due to end in May, there is no byelection for a replacement.
Brent: Kilburn ward, after the death of Labour councillor Tayo Oladapo. Term ends 2018.
Cannock Chase: Cannock West ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Chris Anslow. His term was due to end in May so there will be no byelection.
Croydon: West Thornton ward, after the impending resignation (effective 24 March) of Labour councillor Hon. Emily Benn, who is taking up a post in New York. Term ends 2018.
Doncaster: Kirk Sandall and Edenthorpe ward, after the death of Labour councillor Tony Revill. Term ends 2017.
Hampshire: Fareham Town division, after the resignation of Conservative county councillor George Ringrow who has pleaded guilty to benefit fraud. Term ends 2017.
Hampshire: Headley division, after the resignation of Conservative county councillor Ferris Cowper who is concentrating on his role as Leader of East Hampshire district council. Term ends 2017.
Hyndburn: Church ward, after the impending resignation of Labour councillor Joan Smith. Her term would have ended in May so she will not be replaced at a byelection.
Rossendale: Helmshore ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Peter Evans. His term was due to end in May so there will be no byelection to replace him.

East Riding of Yorkshire: The byelection due in Pocklington Provincial ward will be held on 7 April.
Taunton Deane: The byelection due in Halcon ward will be held on 14 April.

Bath and North East Somerset: The referendum on changing to a directly elected Mayor held on 10 March resulted in an overwhelming vote against change, with 30,557 preferring the leader and cabinet system and only 8,054 supporting a directly elected Mayor.
