The latest updates on local electoral information are as follows.

Results

  • Carlisle: The byelection in Castle ward on 11 September was won by Alan Taylor. Labour hold.
  • Cumbria: The byelection in Castle division on 11 September was won by Alan McGuckin. Labour hold.
  • Newark and Sherwood: The byelection in Collingham and Meering ward on 11 September was won by Richard Shillito. Conservative hold.
  • Newark and Sherwood: The byelection in Ollerton ward on 11 September was won by Michael Pringle. Labour hold.
  • Newham: The byelection in Beckton ward on 11 September was won by Tonii Wilson. Labour hold.
  • Vale of White Horse: The byelection in Abingdon Dunmore ward on 11 September was won by Margaret Crick. Liberal Democrat hold.

Changes of allegiance

  • Buckinghamshire: Julia Wassell, who was elected for the Liberal Democrats in Ryemead and Micklefield division, has left the party to sit as an East Wycombe Independent; however she remains in the same formal grouping as the Liberal Democrats on the council.
  • Stoke-on-Trent: Janine Bridges, who was elected for the Labour Party in Great Chell and Packmoor ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent councillor.
  • Tendring: Dawn Skeels (Little Clacton and Weeley ward) and Mick Skeels (St Johns ward), both of whom were elected for the Conservatives, have joined the UK Independence Party following the defection of the local MP Douglas Carswell.
  • Wrexham: Further developments have occurred following last week’s defection of ten members of the Labour group. The ten defectees have formed their own group, as yet unnamed. Meanwhile the two Plaid Cymru councillors, who had been sitting in the Wrexham Independents group, have now formed their own separate group. Discussions on the shape of any new administration are continuing.
  • Wycombe: Two Liberal Democrat councillors, Julia Wassell and Matt Knight (Micklefield ward), have left the party to set up the East Wycombe Independent group.
  • York: Helen Douglas, who was elected for the Labour Party in Clifton ward, has joined the Conservatives following her deselection as a candidate for 2015. As a result the Labour administration no longer has an overall majority.

New vacancies

  • Durham: Evenwood division, after the death of Labour councillor Pauline Charlton. Term ends 2017.
  • Fenland: Medworth ward, following the disqualification of Conservative councillor Jonathan Farmer who was given a suspended prison sentence. Term ends 2015.
  • Melton: Asfordby ward, after the death of Labour councillor Trevor Moncrieff. Term ends 2015.
  • Orkney: Kirkwall West and Orphir ward, after the resignation of Independent councillor Jack Moodie. Term ends 2017.
  • Rossendale: Helmshore ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Amanda Milling on selection as Parliamentary candidate for Cannock Chase. Term ends 2015.
  • Telford and Wrekin: Ironbridge Gorge ward, after the death of Labour councillor and former council leader Dave Davies. Term ends 2015.
  • Telford and Wrekin: Newport West ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Adam Stanton. Term ends 2015.
  • Wokingham: Bulmershe and Whitegates ward, in the event that Lesley Hayward declines to appeal or fails to overturn her suspended prison sentence. She was elected as a Liberal Democrat but is sitting as an Independent.

  • Conwy: The byelection due in Towyn division will be held on 16 October.
  • Fenland: The byelection due in Medworth ward will be hld on 16 October.
  • Forest of Dean: The byelection due in Newnham and Westdean ward will be held on 23 October.
  • Gloucestershire: The byekection due in Mitcheldean division will be held on 23 October.
  • Mid Sussex: The byelection due in Haywards Heath Lucastes ward will be held on 23 October.
  • Rossendale: The byelection due in Helmshore ward will be held on 16 October.
  • Rutland: The byelection due in Whissendine ward will be held on 16 October.
  • Thurrock: The byelection due in West Thurrock and South Stifford ward will be held on 16 October.
  • York:The byelection due in Westfield ward will take place on 16 October.
