Southend on Sea council: Byelection on 23 January 2014 in West Leigh ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Gwen Horrigan due to ill health. Term ends 2015. The Conservatives would lose their overall majority if they do not retain the seat.
West Lindsey district council: Byelection on 19 December in Scotter ward after the death of Conservative councillor Chris Underwood-Frost. There is a second vacancy in the same ward after the death of Conservative councillor William Parry but this one will not be filled in the same byelection. Both terms end in 2015.
Brent borough council: Vacancy in Dudden Hill ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Rev David Clues, who has been living and working in Brighton since December 2011. Dhiraj Kataria, who was elected for the Labour Party in Welsh Harp ward, but had the whip withdrawn last year, has now joined the Liberal Democrats.
Dartford borough council: Steve Doran was elected councillor for Swanscombe ward on 5 December with a majority of one vote. She gained for the Labour Party a seat previously held by the Swanscombe Residents Association.
South Bucks district council: Byelection on 12 December in Iver Village and Richings Park ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Alan Oxley, who was the only member of his party on the council. Term ends 2015.
Lichfield district council: Vacancy in Chadsmead ward after the disqualification of Conservative councillor Michael Fryers, who failed to attend any meeting of the council in six months. Term ends 2015.
Richmondshire district council: Byelection on 12 December in Hornby Castle ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Lin Clarkson, who was elected in a byelection in May 2012. Term ends 2015.
Cardiff city council: At byelections on 5 December, Darren Williams was elected councillor for Riverside division and Edward Stubbs was elected councillor for Splott division. Both held their seats for the Labour Party.
Powys county council: A split in the Shire Independent group has led to a reconstruction of the cabinet. A new Independent group has been formed under the leadership of Graham Brown (Llandrinio division); the new group is in opposition, and so its three members who were in the cabinet have resigned. The administration now consists of the Shire Independent Group and the Powys Independent Alliance (24 members).
Moray council: Byelection on 30 January 2014 in Buckie ward after the resignation of Independent councillor Anne McKay. Term ends 2017. The current Independent and Conservative administration would lose its overall majority if the new councillor does not support it.
