Redcar and Cleveland council: Byelection on 17 November for two seats in Zetland ward, after the resignations of Ron Harrison and Jim Rogers. Both sitting Liberal Democrat councillors for this ward have resigned over a legal dispute over whether they were disqualified from election in May as members of the teaching staff of Eston Park School; this is a foundation school which is funded through the local education authority and raises the question of disqualification under s. 80 (1) (a) of the Local Government Act 1972. Ron Harrison is seeking re-election as he is no longer working at the school. Both terms end in 2015.
Warrington council: Byelection on 17 November in Poulton North ward after the sudden death of Liberal Democrat councillor Colin Oliver, who won the seat in a byelection on 28 July. Term ends May next year.
Adur district council: Vacancy in Eastbrook ward following the disqualification of Liberal Democrat councillor Gavin Ayling, who failed to attend any meetings of the council in six months. The term ends May next year.
Highland council: Ex-army Major Carolyn Caddick was elected councillor for Inverness South ward on 3 November. She gains for the Liberal Democrats a seat which was won by Labour at the last election, although the sitting councillor had been expelled from the party following a conviction for benefit fraud.
