The latest information about other local council electoral matters is as follows:
- Blaby district council: Byelection on 25 November in Blaby South ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Dr David Pollard. Term ends May 2011.
East of England
- East Hertfordshire district council: Vacancy in Sawbridgeworth ward due to the resignation of Independent councillor Nigel Clark. The term ends May 2011 but the resignation was before the cut-off date so a byelection may still be held.
- Harlow borough council: There are two vacancies, in Staple Tye and in Sumners and Kingsmoor ward, due to the resignations of husband and wife Conservative councillors Lee and Sarah Dangerfield respectively. In both cases their resignation comes within six months of the end of their term and so no byelections will be held.
- Norfolk county council: Vacancy in Humbleyard division due to the impending resignation of Conservative councillor and council leader Daniel Cox who is moving to India. Term ends 2013.
- South Norfolk district council: Vacancy in Rustens ward due to the impending resignation of Conservative councillor Daniel Cox who is moving to India. Term ends May 2011; as his formal resignation will be within six months of the ordinary election, no byelection can be held.
- Thurrock borough council: The Conservative group have suspended two councillors, Eddie Hardiman (Stanford-le-Hope West ward) and Danny Nicklen (Stanford East and Corringham Town ward) following allegations of misbehaviour at a civic bonfire.
- Waveney district council: Vacancy in Southwold and Reydon after the resignation of Conservative councillor Simon Tobin due to pressure of business. Term ends 2014.
- Tower Hamlets borough council: Byelection on 16 December in Spitalfields and Banglatown ward after the disqualification of Lutfur Rahman on election as Mayor of Tower Hamlets. He had been elected for the Labour Party but was expelled when he stood as an Independent against the Labour candidate for Mayor.
- Stockton-on-Tees borough council: There are three vacancies. First, Billingham East ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Alex Cunningham, now MP for Stockton North. Second, Ingleby Barwick East ward, caused by the resignation of Ingleby Barwick Independent Society member Andrew Larkin. Third, Mandale and Victoria ward, after the death of councillor Allison Trainer, who was a member of the Thornaby Independent Association. All three terms end in May 2011.
- Blackpool council: Vacancy in Stanley ward after the death of Conservative councillor Jean Kenrick. Term ends May 2011.
- Hyndburn borough council: Terry Hurn was elected as councillor for Baxenden ward on 18 November, keeping the seat for the Conservative Party.
- Liverpool city council: Martin Cummins and Stephanie Till, the Labour Party candidates, were elected councillors for Croxteth ward at the double byelection on 18 November. Cummins will have a term ending in 2012 while Till must stand for re-election next May. Labour retained one seat but gained the other from the Liberal Democrats.
- Manchester city council: Vacancy in Baguley ward after the death of Labour councillor Eddie McCulley. Term ends 2014.
- Ribble Valley borough council: Vacancy in Salthill ward after the disqualification of Conservative councillor Simon Farnsworth, who has not attended any meeting of the council for six months. With less than six months to go before the next council elections, no byelection will be held.
- Rochdale borough council: Six Liberal Democrat councillors have left the party, expressing discontent over local and national issues, to sit as Independents. The move may endanger the Liberal Democrat/Conservative coalition on the council. The six are Ted Flynn, Pat Flynn and Peter Davison (all from Castleton ward), Doreen Brophy-Lee (North Heywood ward), Barbara Todd (Spotwood and Falinge ward) and Naim Mahmud (Kingsway ward).
- St Helens borough council: Byelection on 2 December in Haydock ward following the death of the longest serving councillor in the country, Jim Caunce, who was a Labour councillor. Term ends 2012.
- Warrington council: Byelection on 9 December in Bewsey and Whitecross ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Jo Crotty. Term ends 2012.
- West Lancashire borough council: Vacancy in Derby ward after the death of Conservative councillor David Swiffen. Term ends May 2011.
- Ashford borough council: Vacancy in Kennington ward after the death of Conservative councillor Major John Kemp. As his term was due to end in May 2011, there will be no byelection.
- Chichester district council: Byelection on 25 November in Plaistow ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor John Andrews. Term ends May 2011.
- Dover district council: Byelection on 16 December 2010 in Lydden and Temple Ewell ward after the death of Conservative councillor Roger Frayne. Term ends May 2011.
- Fareham borough council: Byelection on 9 December in Fareham West ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Diana Harrison due to ill health. Term ends 2012.
- Kent county council: Byelection on 16 December in Dover Town division following the death of Roger Frayne. There are also vacancies in Romney Marsh division following the death of Willie Richardson, and in Tonbridge division following the death of Godfrey Horne MBE. All three were Conservatives and both terms end in 2013.
- New Forest district council: Vacancy in Marchwood ward after the death of Conservative councillor Alan Shotter. Term ends May 2011; as his death occurred more than six months before the end of the term, there may be a byelection.
- Shepway district council: Vacancy in Lydd ward after the death of Conservative councillor Willie Richardson. As the vacancy has occurred within six months of the day on which his term was due to end in May 2011, there will be no byelection.
- Tunbridge Wells district council: Byelection on 16 December in Sherwood ward after the death of Conservative councillor Ted Jolley. Term ends 2014.
- Winchester city council: Vacancy in Oliver’s Battery and Badger Farm ward after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor David Spender. Term ends 2012. The Liberal Democrats will lose their overall majority if they fail to keep the seat.
- Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead: Vacancy in Park ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Richard Gard who has moved out of the borough. Term ends May 2011.
- Cornwall council: Vacancy in Camborne North ward after the resignation of Bill Jenkin who was elected as a Conservative but was sitting as a non-aligned councillor after legal troubles. Term ends 2013.
- Gloucestershire county council: Vacancy in Rodborough division after the death of Conservative councillor Stephen Glanfield. Term ends 2013.
- Poole council: Byelection on 2 December in Poole Town ward after the death of council leader and Conservative councillor Brian Leverett. Term ends May 2011.
- Stroud district council: Vacancy in Amberley and Woodchester ward after the death of Conservative councillor Stephen Glanfield. Term ends 2012.
- Wiltshire council: Byelection on Tuesday 21 December in Bromham, Rowde and Potterne ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Philip Brown, who has pleaded guilty to fraud and theft. Term ends 2013.
- Bromsgrove borough council: Byelection on 16 December in Marlbrook ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor George Lord. Lord’s sudden resignation was prompted by allegations of inappropriate behaviour to members of staff. Term ends May 2011.
- Rugby borough council: Byelection on 2 December in Dunchurch and Knightlow ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Mike Galsworthy. Term ends 2014.
- Sandwell borough council: Labour Party candidate Peter Hughes was elected councillor for Wednesbury North on 18 November, taking a seat held by the Conservative Party for 36 years.
- Solihull borough council: Vacancy in Olton ward after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Honor Cox. Term ends 2012. The Liberal Democrat/Labour coalition which runs Solihull may be endangered if the Conservatives win.
- Worcestershire county council: Byelection on 25 November in Bowbrook division after the death of Conservative councillor Ted Sheldon. There is a second byelection on 16 December in Alvechurch division after the resignation of Conservative councillor George Lord. Lord’s sudden resignation (he was leader of the council at the time) was prompted by allegations of inappropriate behaviour to members of staff.Term ends 2013.
- Bradford city council: Byelection on 25 November in Worth Valley ward after the resignation of former council leader Kris Hopkins (Conservative), now MP for Keighley. Term ends 2012.
- Cardiff city council: Fenella Bowden, who was elected as a Liberal Democrat councillor in Heath ward, has left the party to sit as an Independent.
- Ceredigion county council: Byelection on Tuesday 30 November in Ciliau Aeron division after the disqualification of Plaid Cymru councillor Moelfryn Maskell, who was found by the Adjudication Panel of Wales to have misused his position in relation to planning applications. Term ends 2012.
- Conwy county borough council: Mike Rayner was elected councillor for Eglwysbach division on 18 November, holding the seat for Plaid Cymru. Marl division has a vacancy after the resignation of Conservative councillor Linda Hurr. Both terms end in 2012. Meanwhile Susan Lloyd-Williams, who was elected as an Independent in Llansannan division, has joined Plaid Cymru.
- Isle of Anglesey council: Richard Dew was elected councillor for Rhosneigr division on 18 November as an Independent. He is likely to join the Original Independent group on the council.
- Torfaen county borough council: Wayne Tomlinson, who was elected as an Independent in Abersychan division, has joined the Labour Party.
- Angus council: Byelection on 3 February 2011 in Carnoustie and district ward after the resignation of Scottish National Party councillor Ralph Palmer. Term ends 2012.
