Scottish Tories lost in the Forres

The latest information about other local council electoral matters is as follows:

East Midlands

  • Blaby district council: Byelection on 25 November in Blaby South ward after the resignation of Liberal Democrat councillor Dr David Pollard. Term ends May 2011.

East of England

London

  • Tower Hamlets borough council: Byelection on 16 December in Spitalfields and Banglatown ward after the disqualification of Lutfur Rahman on election as Mayor of Tower Hamlets. He had been elected for the Labour Party but was expelled when he stood as an Independent against the Labour candidate for Mayor.

North East

  • Stockton-on-Tees borough council: There are three vacancies. First, Billingham East ward, after the resignation of Labour councillor Alex Cunningham, now MP for Stockton North. Second, Ingleby Barwick East ward, caused by the resignation of Ingleby Barwick Independent Society member Andrew Larkin. Third, Mandale and Victoria ward, after the death of councillor Allison Trainer, who was a member of the Thornaby Independent Association. All three terms end in May 2011.

North West

South East

  • Chichester district council: Byelection on 25 November in Plaistow ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor John Andrews. Term ends May 2011.
  • Dover district council: Vacancy in Lydden and Temple Ewell ward after the death of Conservative councillor Roger Frayne. Term ends May 2011.
  • Fareham borough council: Byelection on 9 December in Fareham West ward, after the resignation of Conservative councillor Diana Harrison due to ill health. Term ends 2012.
  • Isle of Wight council: Dave Stewart was elected councillor for Chale, Niton and Whitwell ward on 11 November, holding the seat for the Conservative Party.
  • Kent county council: Byelection on 16 December in Dover Town division following the death of Roger Frayne. There is also a vacancy in Romney Marsh division following the death of Willie Richardson. Both were Conservatives and both terms end in 2013.
  • Shepway district council: Vacancy in Lydd ward after the death of Conservative councillor Willie Richardson. As the vacancy has occurred within six months of the day on which his term was due to end in May 2011, there will be no byelection.
  • Tunbridge Wells district council: Byelection on 16 December in Sherwood ward after the death of Conservative councillor Ted Jolley. Term ends 2014.
  • Winchester city council: Vacancy in Oliver’s Battery and Badger Farm ward after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor David Spender. Term ends 2012. The Liberal Democrats will lose their overall majority if they fail to keep the seat.
  • Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead: Vacancy in Park ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Richard Gard who has moved out of the borough. Term ends May 2011.

South West

  • Bromsgrove borough council: Byelection on 16 December in Marlbrook ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor George Lord. Lord’s sudden resignation was prompted by allegations of inappropriate behaviour to members of staff. Term ends May 2011.
  • Rugby borough council: Byelection on 2 December in Dunchurch and Knightlow ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Mike Galsworthy. Term ends 2014.
  • Sandwell borough council: Byelection on 18 November in Wednesbury North ward after the resignation of Conservative councillor Bill Archer due to health problems. Term ends 2012.
  • Solihull borough council: Vacancy in Olton ward after the death of Liberal Democrat councillor Honor Cox. Term ends 2012. The Liberal Democrat/Labour coalition which runs Solihull may be endangered if the Conservatives win.
  • Walsall borough council: Lorna Rattigan was elected councillor for Rushall-Shelfield ward on 11 November, narrowly holding the seat for the Conservative Party.
  • Worcestershire county council: Byelection on 25 November in Bowbrook division after the death of Conservative councillor Ted Sheldon. There is a second byelection on 16 December in Alvechurch division after the resignation of Conservative councillor George Lord. Lord’s sudden resignation (he was leader of the council at the time) was prompted by allegations of inappropriate behaviour to members of staff.Term ends 2013.

Yorkshire and the Humber

  • Bradford city council: Byelection on 25 November in Worth Valley ward after the resignation of former council leader Kris Hopkins (Conservative), now MP for Keighley. Term ends 2012.

Wales

Scotland

  • Moray council: Independent candidate Lorna Creswell was elected councillor for Forres ward after on 11 December. She takes a seat previously held by a Conservative councillor.
